Motorhome windscreen covers are a popular accessory among motorhomers, providing benefits like privacy, added insulation, and reduced condensation.
In last month’s community poll, we asked motorhome owners if they used an insulated windscreen cover to find out how popular they are, and the results speak volumes about their necessity for many owners.
The motorhome windscreen covers results
After 742 votes, the results reveal that the overwhelming majority use insulated windscreen covers, with an 88 percent share of the votes. Just eight percent said they don’t use one and a further four percent said they were considering buying one.
Here’s a closer look at the benefits of windscreen covers, along with feedback from fellow motorhomers.
Why are motorhome windscreen covers so popular?
- Temperature regulation: Keeping your interior warmer in winter by blocking cold air and cooler in summer by reflecting the sunlight
- Condensation reduction: By preventing warm, moist air inside the motorhome from hitting cold glass, windscreen covers help minimise condensation
- Privacy and UV protection: Block prying eyes and shield the interior from sun damage
Your comments about windscreen covers
Here’s what some voters said about their experiences of using windscreen covers – from insulation to debris protection…
Bernie Frazer said a motorhome windscreen cover kept the van cooler in very hot weather and stopped condensation in colder months as well as adding warmth.
Martin Sherwin told us he wouldn’t be without one: “I find my external windscreen cover makes a considerable difference to the insulation on cold nights,” he commented.
John Rolls said he had used internal covers and had lots of condensation. “Bought insulated external covers (recommended by a friend)—no condensation, best thing ever bought,” he said. “Saves the water running down the back of the dashboard.”
Peter Ward said he uses an external windscreen cover – but not the insulated type.
“Its main purpose is to keep leaves and seeds from a sycamore tree away from the engine bay when parked up at home,” he commented. “It serves its purpose very well.”
If you’re among the 12 percent not yet using a motorhome windscreen cover, it might be time to consider the benefits. Whether you want to tackle condensation, improve energy efficiency, or stay comfortable in cold or hot weather, or even just protect the outside of your windscreen in between trips, a high-quality cover is a worthwhile investment.
