quoteWhen on your travels in your motorhome, caravan or campervan it’s great to be able to stay connected with family and friends. Some people might also want to keep a check on work emails and stream their favourite TV programmes and movies.
But campsite wi-fi or your phone’s mobile connection might not cut it, and that’s where you’ll probably need a bit of a boost.
This month we tested the Falcon 4G Combo Deluxe router, which boosts the internet signal from an unlocked SIM card.
It’s super simple to set up. Insert a SIM card into the socket at the back of the router, and plug in via the 24V power lead if on electric hook-up, or via the 12V/24V lead if off-grid. In the box, there’s also a lead with crocodile grips to attach to your leisure battery.
The lights will quickly go from red to green on the side of the router to show it’s internet ready, and then you mount it onto the outside of your leisure vehicle using the two supplied suction pads or adhesive mounting pad.
We mounted it to the back of our motorhome, feeding the wire via the rear window – but it could also go on the side or front of your vehicle.
Back inside the van, it was quick and easy to connect our mobile phone and smart TV to the Falcon4G wi-fi network with the password supplied.
The Falcon4G network was instantly in the list of networks, and within minutes we were connected to our social media accounts, had access to our emails, and were able to watch YouTube on the telly and catch up with the latest lunchtime news.
An internet speed test was “fast”, with results showing a 24.3Mbps download speed and 16.8Mbps upload speed. There wasn’t any wi-fi on the campsite, so it was good to have the 4G Combo router. All this is dependent on the network and strength of signal in the area of course.
We were impressed by how easy and quick the Falcon 4G Combo Deluxe was to set up and use, plus the internet speeds we experienced. Streaming YouTube on the TV was effortless with a good quality picture.
