If he was able to freewheel all the way,then to have left the engine running would have used so little fuel as to not count but would have been able to use power steering and brakes so no safety concern.

I suffer with COPD and find the Truma blown air heating makes it worse. What other SAFE heating do other sufferers use in the cold.
Question: Very low on fuel, Sunday closing in S France, top of a mountain (1210 metres) free-wheeled down to nearest township with an unmanned filling station. Apart from excess wear on brakes and a safety issue what damage might this cause to the engine?
