The second generation of Bailey of Bristol’s Olympus range of caravans will roll of the production line soon and we take a quick look at one of the new models, Olympus II 540/5 – a family layout.
It is based on the very popular Pegasus Ancona layout, but with a few changes; this has five berths not six, and this helps make it lighter in weight. Two fixed bunks along the offside are complemented by a single bunk to the left of the door; we liked this bunk as it’s really quite wide and becomes a side dinette.
The corner washroom is not at all cramped and has a decent sized shower and a Belfast sink along with a new swivel cassette toilet.
The soft furnishings are well co-ordinated; in neutral creams and browns with hints of glitz in the scatter cushions they sit well with the Walnut finish furniture with Italian design overhead locker doors. It’s very much a “what you might have in your home” look. Wrap around seating is standard, with an optional chest of drawers.
The kitchen has high gloss worktops with contrasting overhead lockers and flush fit energy efficient down lighters, a four burner gas hob, glass fronted oven and grill; add to this an 800w microwave, decent fridge size, good storage and worktops, and it’s all that mum or dad needs to cater for the family in the caravan, given the cost of eating out for a family of five.
Like all Bailey caravans, it’s made using the highly regarded and award winning Alu-Tech body shell with Grade III classification of Thermal Insulation (EN1645-I).
Verdict
Given the specification, and the price of £15,975, the Olympus II 540/5 delivers both quality and value for existing caravanners and newcomers alike. And given the weight you won’t need a hefty tow car.
Those keen to save on caravan insurance will be delighted to hear that the Olympus comes with the AL-KO ATC electronic anti snaking system as standard, which of course qualifies for discounts. Also the caravan has the receiver for the AL-KO Secure, so if you buy the lock for this, you’ll get an insurance saving for that too.
Models will arrive on retailer forecourts from September 1st and a new micro site will give full information. www.baileyolympus-s2.co.uk

Hi, I seen this caravan at our local dealer and we currently have a 6 berth motorhome. We loved the layout of this caravan especially the bunk beds at the rear that can be closed off with the blind, perfect for my little girl. We would love this layout in a motorhome, fingers crossed Bailey think of this when building their new motorhomes?
I just hope the build quality is better than the Pegasus 546 that I brought in 2010, and that the trim doesnt end up with pink spots on, Baileys need to get thier act together, an unhappy customer.
the only thing i do not like is (1)the small front gas locker ,it may be made to stop you carrying to much weight ,but when on site it was a very usefull locker to keep various items and bits and pieces.i would say %100 of caravanners used it for this purpose and all of them miss this ideal storage space. (2) how ugly the whole front layout looks.with the squat windows and small door
i have owned bailey caravans for years my present one being a bailey senator series 6 .until bailey change the front layout i will not be purchasing another bailey
Great layout with the bathroom and bunks the only thing that spoils this is the door opening on to the bunks would have bought if door had been central.
Brilliant idea to angle the bathroom to gain space–Towing weight looks good–have bailey over come loosening wheel nuts?
beutiful
Hi Good to see the review very positive about the second generation Olympus.
however I would personally like to a fixed island bed (as far as I am aware there is not one in the range) The Lunar Delta SI has an Island bed!
Keep up the good work Caravan guard

We bought the 2011/12 504/4 and this does gave a fixed bed. Extremely nice caravan. Well thought out layout as well.
(Apologies for digging up an old thread)
