We enjoyed reading some of the mouth-watering dishes you cook up in your caravan or motorhome during our latest “Bake Off” poll.
In September we asked voters “What is your favourite campsite cook up or bake off?”, and many of you revealed your passion for cooking whilst touring and camping.
Nearly 150 of you got in touch, with many sharing some delicious recipes and cooking ideas.
Before unveiling the results, take a look at some of your comments:
Liz King said: “I am a keen cook and anything that I cook at home, I can cook in the caravan. With four burners, a grill, a microwave and an oven, nothing is off limits. The first meal I ever cooked in a caravan kitchen was a full roast beef meal with roasted veg, boiled vegetables, gravy, Yorkshire puddings and apple pie for dessert – the full Monty. We’d had the caravan for just one day and I haven’t stopped cooking in the caravan since then!”
Angela swears by her Remoska mini oven: “We only have 3 burners and a grill so use a Remoska which is like an oven and a slow cooker which cooks lovely curries and casseroles.”
What was your top broth?
There was no stand out winner but in at the top, a BBQ was the favourite meal to cook, with 21% of the votes, followed closely by a fry up at 19%.
Pasta also got a good share of votes at 15% followed by stew (10%).
We’re sorry we missed off pizza from the choices, but cook pots seem to be a popular choice for stews, casseroles and curries and then steamers for healthy veggies and fish.
Here’s what Andy said: “We also do jacket spuds and roast meat in the oven with steamed veg in our motorhome in the colder weather (most of the time) and salads in warmer weather.”
But then for some, nothing is off limits with full roast meals being the dish of the day, including Yorkshire Puddings, veggies, the lot – even a pudding or bread thrown in too!
Angela added more about her mini-oven: “It makes a gorgeous roast chicken and anyone can get their Yorkshires to rise in it. You can make cakes as well. Also a Cobb BBQ, which you can make bread in, cook a chicken in an hour and put the pots and veg in the moat round the chicken and they all cook at the same time.”
Cooking in your ‘van is clearly not for everyone, with 10% of you opting for going out. A few of you choose a microwave ready meal (4%) or M&S Dine for two offers, or as Bryan says: “Best of all make use of Caravan and Camping Club’s eat local campaign and eat out!”
