The Compass Corona 462 is a new entry to the caravan market for 2014, although Compass is a well established name from the past. It’s a tried and tested well respected layout with an end washroom and a kitchen on the offside.
>
The kitchen has a dual-fuel hob, which has a glass cover lid, ideal for that extra space, a midi Prima oven and grill, a round sink set in granite effect work top against a grey splash back and a fridge with a high gloss granite décor panel.
Opposite the kitchen is a useful dresser with drawers and cupboard space and a microwave. This is where to find the TV point and wall bracket too.
The living area has parallel seating with a centre chest of drawers that has a pullout table, ideal for just the two of you but there is a free standing table to supplement it. There is plenty of space under the sofas for bulky storage items, accessed by spring assisted bed slats. The sofas can be used as single beds or a large double bed measuring 5ft 11ins x 6ft 10ins.
The interior colour scheme is easy on the eye, thus perhaps quite relaxing, with Noce Prosecco cabinets complemented by a choice of three upholstery choices with coordinating scatter cushions. Lined curtains have a modern contrast border, a good combination of traditional and contemporary style. The loose fit carpet fits over a bamboo effect vinyl floor.
Lighting, we’re pleased to say on the interior, is 100% LED and this can save up to 80% of battery power. The high level brake lights are LED too. Heating and hot water is provided by the Whale 2KW space saving heating system, with a 13L water tank controlled by the Whale I.C. system.
The shower room was notable for the large wardrobe with two hanging rails and several shelves. A fully lined one piece quadrant shower with acrylic doors sits across the offside corner and a Thetford toilet is electric flush. The basin is a new oval style with a chrome mixer tap.
The GRP under skin floor is complemented by a stone chip resistant front panel. Sports alloy wheels are standard. The caravan is built on a single axle AL-KO chassis and has an AL-KO Secure receiver, AL-KO AKS stabiliser and AL-KO ATC. With the ATC anti snaking device fitted as standard, you can expect to save money on your caravan insurance premium.
Verdict; The Compass Corona has a proven layout and the interior colour scheme is certainly easy on the eye. Modern touches such as the LED lighting, oval style basin and space saving heater impress. It’s pleasing to see the AL-KO ATC anti snaking device fitted as standard. It should therefore be on your list if you are considering buying a two-berth caravan. However, it could be worth investing £219 in the optional lock for the caravan’s AL-KO Secure wheel lock receiver to beef up security and lower your insurance premium.

Whilst I like the Compass brand ( I’ve had 2 ) I think that a lot of people like myself would who prefer to use the beds in single mode would find them far too short. I’m 5′ 11” and don’t consider myself tall, so I think I will stick to my Unicorn where the singles are 6′ 3” long.
