Newly registered touring caravans will soon benefit from an ultra-secure CRiS registration document.
The hi-tech document will be released in March 2016 and includes lots of hidden features, including UV fibres embedded on to thermochromic paper.
There’s also a VIN Chip QR code and full security bonded raised hologram – making it even more difficult to forge or alter.
Simply shine a UV torch onto the document and keep safe card to reveal the CRiS and NCC logos – like something out of a James Bond movie! The card also incorporates the unique QR code.
The registration document is fully marked and also includes a secure colour name and address area.
Sean Bailey, Managing Director of CRiS, reassured caravan owners that there had not been any forgery or fraud issues with the current registration document, which was introduced in 2013.
“We’re always looking at ways to improve and we simply wanted to make the already highly secure document even better by taking advantage of the new technologies that we are using with some of our other security products, such as VIN CHIP,” added Sean.
Other invisible and hidden security features within the registration document and card will only be revealed to law enforcement agencies throughout Europe.
CRiS helps prevent and deter caravan crime and acts as a security check for buyers. To find out more about visit www.cris.co.uk
I brought a new caravan in December 2015 and i have not received any documents from cris, should i have. THANKS
It’s for 2016 caravans bought from March. You can contact CRIS and ask for one for a small charge.
I have bought 2010 lunar will I get this new type document when I register the lunar
Hi David, we’ve spoken to CRiS and here is their response:
“Anyone that registers from this point on has the option for the new document. Upon request we will delay their document until the change over at the end of February. From the changeover date all caravans regardless of age or type that register with CRiS will receive the new ultra secure document. Also anyone wanting to upgrade to the new document can do so by calling the CRiS contact centre on 0203 282 1000 to order a replacement document. Please note that there is a charge of £10 for a replacement document.”
Hope this helps?
Is this only on 2016 vans and if so mine is a 2016 van but registered in 2015
This will be from March 2016.
Why is there not a similar organisation for motorhome s?
Hi Roland. We’ve spoken with CRiS and this is something they’re working hard to achieve as they recognise the concerns from motorhome owners. Hopefully in the near future owners will be able to register their motorhome on a CRiS type scheme using the VINChip system. Watch this space…!
