Lunar Lexon 570 Exterior
The Lunar Lexon 570 made it’s début at the Boat and Caravan Show at NEC in February. Liz and Dave King checked it out.
Directly aimed at the family market it’s an interesting layout and that’s why it appealed to us; a six-berth caravan with a fixed double bed. The aluminium framed bed does lift up allowing storage underneath with external access, but it does have the corner of the under bed area cut off and this gives more space in the caravan. By that we mean you are less likely to hit your toes on the edge of the bed as you exit the shower room!

The wood colour is chestnut and this, we thought, blended very nicely with soft furnishing scheme in a coffee and cream corded pattern, which we thought, was practical for family use and the neutral coloured drop-in carpets.
The side kitchen has a linen finish stainless steel sink and smoked glass lid, a four burner hob, oven, grill and 700w microwave. The Thetford electronic fridge with LED display is a good size and certainly means you wouldn’t have to shop everyday even if you’re feeding a hungry family.
The shower room looks clean and had shelves for the family-sized bottles of shower gel and shampoo but there was something about the mirror that didn’t appeal to us.

We can’t really envisage a family and four children using this caravan, and indeed the beds are a tad small for growing lads and lasses, but for a couple with two small kids, then this is worth putting on your short-list.
Verdict
This is a high specification mid-range caravan, with Clubman style lockers; hence the enhanced headroom and Clubman rear panel and one of the first six-berth fixed bed single axle caravans.

As we were both finding it a real pain having to make up the bed at night and stow it away again in the morning, we started the hunt for a suitable replacement for our much beloved Abbey. Our criteria in included a small seating and dining area midway, as well as a front table and of course, a fixed bed. As our family comprises 2 adults and a large dog, we were quite flexible but didn’t really fancy a twin axle. After checking out all the major makes, we kept coming back to Lunar. Although pricey, the quality in all models was unsurpassed, but the model that really did it for us was the brand new Lexon 570. This model ticked all the boxes and was the only single axle with a fixed bed and midway table and seating (which is actually where the bunk beds can be assembled), so we went for it in May 2010. We still have the 570 and can report that we are still madly in love with it and have not had a single major complaint. Our local dealer, Halleys, do a superb job in looking after us and the van and we would not consider replacing it. I can’t understand why this model is no longer available. It is the ultimate in quality, comfort and just pure unadulterated luxury.
