The Murvi Piccolo
Nominated for the Which Motorcaravan magazine ‘Compact Motorhome under 6 metres’ award, the Murvi Piccolo was described by the judges as a “well-designed and very thoughtfully constructed product”.
They point out that although not a cheap option for a van conversion – at £39,601 list price plus options – it is beautifully made motorhome.
Its bed/lounge is a quite different arrangement from the norm and pulls out in a trice. There are two table options – one conventionally in the lounge and another that you attach to the passenger cab seat.
The compact kitchen area in the Murvi
This one swivels to suit and means that the higher seating position does not bar the driver from having a table to eat from (the standard table is a bit too low for this). It is clever, and more importantly, it works.
The compact kitchen offers enough space to do what is required of it, and a microwave can be fitted in a useful position above the worktop. Kitchen standard equipment includes melamine crockery, cutlery drainer basket and a chopping board.
Although a two-berth motorhome, the Piccolo has a forward-facing rear seat with two seatbelts, so you can safely travel four-up. Both front seats swivel, though you need to adjust the slider position to do so.
Inside the front of the Piccolo
The motorhome gets plenty of light courtesy of eight LED downlighters and two fluorescents with switches to activate them in sensible places.
Now to the bathroom which boasts a large basin and useful hooks, a towel ring and a soap dispenser. The loo gets a swivel seat and electric flush and there is enough room to use it comfortably.
A major plus of this motorhome is the fact you can enter the shower area via the single opening rear door, which means you don’t have to go through the main living area. You can use the shower hose outside too to wash down those muddy boots or give the dog a clean.
You’ll find plenty of storage space throughout the Piccolo, including a large area under the lounge seats, and a useful place for bedding behind. There are two fabric-covered top lockers and a big overcab space. The half-height wardrobe takes clothes hangers sideways and the circuit breakers and RCD are here too.
Verdict
A new Murvi may well be a rare event but it’s one always worth waiting for, offering superb quality, good design and extensive equipment levels.
