Add a dash cam to your motorhome and you can record your adventures, traffic incidents and more!
And according to our latest poll, they’re certainly a hit with many of our motorhome readers.
An incredible 86 percent of voters told us they used a dash cam when driving their motorhome.
Only six percent of the 400 motorhomers who voted said they didn’t use a dash cam. And a further eight percent of motorhome owners said they were considering one to capture their travels and any incidents along the way!
Your dash cam comments
Many motorhome drivers told us they use a dash cam for that extra peace of mind and to capture any incident whilst travelling.
Steve Barthorpe said he fitted one for two reasons: “Like most users as an aid to record incidents on the road, whilst driving,” he said. “As an HD camera to record my journeys. You can’t see everything whilst driving. If I think I have missed something or just want to review my trip, I download the footage to my computer and watch/save the footage. Anything I want to keep or show other people I edit and burn onto DVD. It can also be used to resolve any dispute with your co-pilot, providing the offending footage doesn’t get erased first!”
Peter Boylan installed a dash cam for peace of mind in helping with any insurance claim, especially when touring on the continent.
“One special moment was when it captured a deer trotting across a field in southern France which then sprinted across the road in front of us,” commented Peter. “Fortunately I had seen it coming, but nice to view again when I wasn’t braking!”
Thomas Williams recommended buying a device with a rear view camera to help if shunted from behind and both Geoff Gambrill and Ron Rayner said they wouldn’t be without theirs.
“A valuable device to help insurers and sometimes the police to see the facts of an incident rather than the often disputed statements given, particularly when there are no independent witnesses around,” added Ron.
Thanks to everyone who voted and if you’re considering such a device, then see our recent gear guide on dash cams for motorhoming or caravanning.
