The new Lunar Pinnacle RK
The desirable extension of a useful overcab double bed area means this motorhome isn’t the prettiest on the market.
Still, the acute step angle from the habitation area roofline to that of the squared-off overcab does mean that there’s plenty of headroom in the upper bedroom, and available lateral space is maximised.
The RK is a new addition to the Pinnacle ranks for 2009 and joins the existing (and also Ford-underpinned) French bed (FB) and rear lounge (RL) models in the Lunar line-up.
The overcab is the obvious outside difference between the RK and the low-profiles and with a double bed that emerges from the pullman dinette, and the fact that the nearside settee is long enough to serve as a single bed, makes this a genuine 4/5-berth.
The front of the Lunar Pinnacle
The Ford Transit’s dashboard is still arguably the best you can currently buy in a motorhome.
The GT pack costs an additional £1267, and this brings electric windows/door mirrors, remote central locking, a radio/CD-player and a body-colour bumper. Add another £832 for cab air-con and £59 for cab carpets but even with all these extras added it’s still very keen value.
Inside, the RK is great for socialising and dining, and it caters for rear passengers, too. The lounge’s pull-out bed extension is both novel and easy to use.
The rear of the Lunar Pinnacle
The end kitchen extends to a three-burner hob, an oven/grill unit and an 88-litre fridge, while marginal worktop space is boosted considerably by the large surface located above the fridge opposite.
Verdict:
The RK is a genuine four-berth due to its useful overcab double bed area and the double bed that can be made from the Pullman dinette, so is perfectly suited to young families. It was a deserved runner-up in the Budget Buy category of this year’s Which Motorcaravan Awards. Being of Ford origin, the base vehicle won’t be quite as sharp in the bends as the equivalent Fiat, but it will definitely have a much more compliant ride. And we know from past experience that the 110bhp TDCi engine is an absolute gem.
