Coachman introduced its first Lusso, a twin axle model, for the 2021 season and it’s fair to say it’s gone down rather well. No surprise, then, that there’s an addition on the planning board for the 2022 season.
Coachman Lusso I: Going single
Meet smaller sister, the single axle Lusso I caravan (the original Lusso, now dubbed 2, is a twin axle). Needless to say, it’s that bit shorter than its forerunner – 7.43m vs 7.90 m – and the same, extra-wide 2.44m width. But perhaps more crucially for some, is the fact that its maximum weight is down considerably.
One of the main updates (and this applies also to the 2022 twin axle Lusso 2) is the reconfigured front lounge that now comes with a removable free-standing table, rather than the original fixed pedestal leg version. It seems folk like the opportunity to keep the table out of the way at some point.
Thereafter, it’s the ever-popular transverse island bed/full-width washroom caravan layout formula.
If the exterior looks – note the two font lockers, black trimwork, 10-spoke alloy wheels etc; although a slight surprise is the side windows aren’t flush-fitting – aren’t enough to convince of the Coachman Lusso’s upmarket aspirations, an interior inspection surely will.
That lounge has sprung interior cushioning and higher than average backrests, no less than six scatter cushions, while along the nearside the furniture unit is deep enough to accommodate a TV.
For the Coachman Lusso I’s kitchen, there’s a Dometic 133-litre fridge/freezer – big sister Lusso 2’s is a 177-litre model, one of just a very few differences between the models.
Across the corridor, there’s a pronounced L-shape to the kitchen unit, allowing for lots of work surface, helped by a good-sized extension section, as well as a large locker with pull-out chromes racks. There’s also drawer and more low-level locker storage, with particularly easy-to-operate catches.
The worktop area, including the loose cover for the inset sink, is Corian-style and the Thetford cooker comes complete with cast-iron pan stands.
Like the extractor unit just below it, the microwave oven is flush-fitted. The location directly over the hob won’t be favoured by all users.
Beyond the kitchen of the Coachman Lusso I is the bedroom, where there’s plenty of space with the island bed retracted to get around and through to the washroom. Fully extended, dimensions are some 1.87m x 1.37m.
Comfort extends to a fully padded headboard, plus “bedside tables” at each side.
At the foot of the bed, there’s a dresser unit (left) and wardrobe plus more clothes storage (right).
That full-width washroom is generous in its space and equipment. There’s a spacious shower cubicle with single door, water-efficient showerhead and single chrome waste outlet.
A Heki rooflight and opaque window take care of ventilation, while the heated towel rail – part of the Alde central heating and hot water system – will help keep things cosy.
Storage includes a double-doored locker directly beneath the countertop basin and over the toilet. There’s also room for a fuller size off-white ladder radiator.
The Coachman Lusso I’s standard kit includes remote control E&P self-levelling system, 100Watt solar panel, extensive LED lighting, Dometic safe, on-board wi-fi, mobile phone charging unit on the front bulkhead, Pioneer stereo system with speakers in the bedroom and lounge…

All this was never going to come cheap, of course. With an on-the-road price confirmed for 2022 for the Lusso 2 of £43,670, the Lusso I breaks the £40K barrier.
Don’t expect a large payload, either, although frankly it’s going to be hard working out what kit you want to add considering the Coachman Lusso I’s amazing specification.
Verdict: Flagship status for this special Coachman
Plus: Cut-above build quality, awesome specification
Minus: Pricey
In-a-nutshell: Luxury by another name
