The Coachman Amara caravans have been significantly re-designed for 2011 season. There are nine models ranging from two berths to a new twin axle six berths model all featuring Grade III thermal insulation, determined by calculation. New features include fully engineered aluminium frame front end beds with a hinged lift-up system supported by gas struts in the lid up position; we liked that idea and realised how much easier bed making would be.
The internal furniture was two tone colour; ash with metallic trim and ash with a milky coffee colour; LED reading lights were well positioned and a moulded 12v LED light in the corner of the front end still allowed access to the corner of the cupboard. We liked that practicality. Interiors had lots of natural light due to Heki 2 panoramic roof lights in all models.
A new design chest of drawers with three drawers sits in all models and there were new design ABS shower cubicles and ABS basins. The Truma 3002 3.4kw space heater with the Truma Ultraheat blown air system provides the heating using gas or electric sources and the Truma Ultraflow water system provides hot water.
Colour schemes were pleasantly contemporary, yet with a touch of class.
Externally, new graphics were stunning in graphite and silver and we liked the new LED awning light with a rain gutter. Some models offer a new lined external locker with 230V electric socket and all models had an external barbecue gas point.
All models are fully wired for satellite television and an Omnivent roof light extractor fan is fitted as standard. Microwave ovens had a dedicated housing, concealed behind top locker doors but we didn’t like the fact that the door needed to be open whilst the microwave was in use; you could bang your head on the door.
Verdict:
We think the range will be popular and although it’s primarily aimed at families, the two berth models lack nothing and the two six berth models still have a feeling of space and luxury. We suggest add to your shortlist if you are considering a purchase, and remember the VAT rise in January 2011.
Recommended Retail Price at September 2010 from £14,245.00 for the 380/2 to £17,995.00 for the twin axle 655/6.
This includes VAT at 17.5% but excludes a charge of up to £495.00 charged by your retailer which includes delivery to the factory from the manufacturer and preparing your caravan for collection by you.
