There’s no denying it, winter is on the way! You would be forgiven for assuming that the majority people have their caravan or motorhome locked away in storage during the colder months, but we know that’s not always the case.
Winter is a fantastic time to explore parts of the UK and Europe and the roads are less busy than in the summer months, making it a great time to get out and about. Plus advances in heating systems, insulation, and other camping gadgets make winter touring much more comfortable. Just be sure to follow our tips for bad weather caravanning or winter motorhoming.
What we want to know though is whether you’ll be one of those who hibernates with your caravan or motohome, or one who dares to brave the elements and head outdoors.
Sounds like you lot have a busy winter ahead! Some very exciting plans here!
We spend all winter in scotland and the best trick i found to stop water from freezing is a 20watt heat trace cable wraped around my direct water supply to my van simply plug into 13 pin socket cost £23 pounds the system kicks in when temp drops down to 5c simple
Caravan sites up here in Scotland that are open during winter are few and far between we would love to do it. even if they opened til the end of the year.
I’m spending the next 6 months travelling through France, Spain and Italy checking out all the local food and wine. Far fewer tourists this time of year and although the weather is mixed, it hasn’t stopped me yet.
we are out all winter and we are out on24/12/13 to 3/1/14 at this moment in time we have 8 units booked on over christmas rally then 9 more units arrive we take over a village hall we do all meals for 34 adults + kids and have a great time
Mum says we’re going to have lots of trips away in our little romahome this winter. She’s had a special heater fitted to keep her cosy but I just can’t understand why she just doesn’t get better fur like me!
Sold the house, furniture goes into storage not the Motorhome. Going to tour UK, again, starting with the Welsh Coast, then South Coast, Norfolk and keep going for a few months whilst looking for a small cottage in Suffolk with a big enough drive for our Sundance 630L.
We have been living in our caravan since July and will be going right through the winter with it. Not sure what it’s going to be like. Been ok so far. The caravan is a brand new luner with fixed double which is spacious and warm. We’ve got to do thus because we haven’t been able to sell our house and needed to move to another part of the UK for work reasons.
Hoping that when I return from work(Azerbaijan) mid-November that we leave blighty via euro-tunnel,cross France,Switzerland & down the whole coast of Italy to Brindisi then Ferry over to Greece & drive into Bulgaria…oh plus two dogs,my wife is classing it as an Adventure….obviously she is not driving lol,any tips would be appreciated
Yes we are off to Beechwood CC site in December for 5 days with some friends ,we find it ideal for xmas shopping ie Monks Cross and the city and a little R & R and if the weather is fine a trip to the moors or coast ,its warmer in the caravan than the house !!
Always go away for 4 or 5 nights over New Year to different venues in the UK with friends in our Motor Homes. We also celebrate our wedding anniversary on January 2nd so two celebrations while away – New Year and anniversary. This year we’re off to London – a first for both couples at New Year! We use our Motor Home all year and love it!
Just got home from a week on mull in a borrowed motorhome, we have 3 weekends booked and we are going to yorkshire dales for 5days over new year, weather permitting we will caravan all year
We love caravanning this time of year. Its quiet and the weather dose not bother us at all. We are nice and warm have all the things we have at home .We call it our 5 star accommodation. We enjoy meeting other nutters like us. We have been iced up 14 below in Scotland, had gails and heavy rain. It will not deter us. Mind you we have been away in summer and had gail force winds and floods. No sun. At least winter time frost and snow looks lovely with winter sun.
Definitely be using the motorhome again just as soon as my daughter has her baby (due next week) and is well enough to leave her to look after our grandchildren. Took our grandson away 2weeks ago and used the Cabbunk for him in our 2berth motorhome -great fun and he loved it!
