Caravanning in winter can be great fun and the perfect time to get the most out of your leisure vehicle.
Lockdowns, campsite closures, and uncertainty around foreign travel in 2020 and 2021 have left many caravanners keen to use their tourer as much as possible.
In last month’s community poll, we asked owners if they would be holidaying in their caravan this winter, or if they’d be staying put, or even going on a different kind of winter holiday (without their pride and joy).
Winter holiday plans revealed
After 150 votes, a huge 72 percent of voters said they would be holidaying in their caravan in the UK this winter. And a further six percent said they would be heading off to Europe in their tourer.
It’s great to see so many caravanners planning on enjoying a much-needed break in their caravan in the colder months, which can also boost our tourist and hospitality industry, and is still the perfect socially distanced way to holiday! Sam Hurford told us they would be spending a weekend in Ludlow to visit the medical Christmas fair in the castle and then heading off to Wales to spend Christmas at Bargoed Farm on a pitch with a hot tub! Sounds amazing.
New caravanner Mark Coupe said their winter holiday plans included a three-night stay in Bakewell in November and then a further three nights over the new year in their Bailey Phoenix 420+.
“We love our ‘van, it’s so cosy and warm,” said Mark. “The best thing we’ve ever done.”
Just 13 percent of those who voted said they wouldn’t be going away in their caravan over the winter months but would be staying at home.
An alternative kind of holiday accommodation didn’t seem to appeal to our caravanners, with only one percent of voters saying they would be staying in a hotel or B&B; or going on a winter holiday abroad; a winter cruise, or staying in a lodge or static caravan.
Thanks to everyone who voted and we hope those of you who have some winter holidays planned in your tourer – in the UK or Europe – have a fabulous time.
