The Elddis Xplore 402, a new model in the Xplore range has many new features – both inside and out. These include internal headroom of 6ft 5ins, a full height, high gloss rear panel with road lights, a fully bonded roof and a full height, high gloss, stone chip resistant front panel which has a one-piece front window.
Internally, there is an end-shower room, an offside kitchen and parallel seating with a centre chest of drawers.
The kitchen has a three-burner gas hob with a high speed burner (ideal for those quick and easy suppers) and the glass lid gives a bit of extra work space. The hob is complemented by a combination oven and grill; if black is your colour, it features in the sink and the décor panel of the fridge too.
Opposite the kitchen is a small dresser type unit with mains socket, TV point and bracket, and generous cupboards above and below.
The seating area is spacious, certainly there’s room for your friends to join you for a natter; if there are just the two of you then the pull-out table in the chest of drawers should suffice for a meal but if friends join you then there is a free-standing table too.
The sofas convert to a double bed measuring 1.850x 1.980 or two singles of 1.850 x 690 and there’s enough room in the locker space underneath for bedding and bulky items.
The shower room has a fully lined, square, white shower with a bi-fold door, storage units and an oval style washbasin, a new style for this year. Heating and hot water is provided by the Whale space saving system with an 8L rapid heat up water tank both controlled by the Whale I.C control panel. There are two blown air ducts in the caravan.
The interior colour scheme is simple with walnut lookalike furniture, there are contrasting cream eye-level units in the kitchen, sprung upholstery seating, chocolate bamboo effect duty flooring with a carpet runner, cream unlined curtains with contrasting borders and contrast piping on the scatter cushions.
The exterior is simple and easy on the eye, featuring a practical large gas bottle locker for two gas bottles with fitted gas regulator.
Verdict
The new layout in this popular, budget and lightweight model will be popular as it’s pretty spacious for its size – the end washrooms are sure to be a hit with couples. Adding optional security features such as the BPW Diamond wheel lock for £299 will give you peace of mind and will be reflected in the cost of insuring the Xplore 402 caravan.

We took Delivery of a Explore 402 several weeks ago and took it on delivery day 400 miles to the Ferry Port across to Tour France for three weeks . It Towed well behind our 2 L Diesel Ford Mondeo . We found it had lots of storage space and very comfortable indeed , light and airy inside and Beds comfy. A very easy Caravan to Handle with modern LED lighting and Heating.
I could not agree less. We have just sold our Bailey Orion 400-2 and ordered an Xplore 402 as we think it a far superior van to the new Bailey Pursuit. The Xplore has more generously sized beds and very much more storage than the similar sized Bailey
Good review by Neil, but unlike the Bailey Pursuit, no one seems to want to comment about this Xplore. Perhaps because it is so uninspiring?
