We’re delivering a month of festive cheer to help feed the homeless.
Our Christmas charity donation goes to the Happy Days Community Café in Halifax to dish up homecooked meals to those who need them throughout December.
It costs the café £50 a day to provide at least 20 hot meals and desserts. Caravan Guard pledged £1550 but as this was donated through the Big Give Campaign the amount was doubled to £3,100 meaning over 1200 meals could be served this winter.
The Happy Days Café is open three days a week, providing home-cooked food for deprived families, individuals with financial or addiction issues, and those without a home.
Head chef Gav (centre) cooks up a range of meals from foodstuff donated or sourced via the Fareshare programme. He’s been known to make duck ragout, Bao buns and mac and cheese from cheese strings! Each week, he has to get creative in the kitchen and serve recipes from the available food items.
But during Christmas week, Caravan Guard’s donation will allow the charity to dish out Christmas dinners from its community café and support the Happy Days Winter Shelter, which offers a safe haven for those in crisis in the colder months.
Caravan Guard’s Associate Director, Laura Wilby, (left) said they were delighted to be able to provide a substantial meal to those in need this winter.
“It’s amazing what can be cooked up from basic ingredients and how heart warming to see how grateful those who are fed at the café are,” said Laura. “We’re proud to support Happy Days and the incredible work they do with vulnerable and homeless people throughout our local town.”
Caravan Guard has a strong culture of supporting charitable causes and one of its company values is “care completely”.
Each year it donates tens of thousands of pounds to Overgate Hospice and Heart Research UK, and staff regularly give back during their annual charity days and fundraising initiatives.
Laura Whitham, (right) Head of Events and Community Fundraising at Happy Days, said: “This donation will make a huge difference to many people who often just need a warm meal and a place to chat,” she said. “We’re super grateful to Laura and all the staff at Caravan Guard for making such a positive difference and caring completely.”
