Latest addition, the 244, goes straight to the top of the six-strong Carrera range of van conversions from Swift.
Topping the lot
It’s a Fiat-based four-berth campervan with a real modern feel to it, also boasting the latest must-have feature for any multi-berth vehicle in this sector – an elevating roof. Accessed by a ladder, the mattress area up here is a generous enough 2.00m x 1.30m on plastic springing for extra support as well as ventilation.
In this video, we take a look around the 2025 Swift Carrera 244 campervan:
It’s all based on Fiat’s 6m long high-roof Ducato and it’s amazing what it can fit in – two lounges, for starters.
At the back are twin inward-facing settees with lots of window space around them as well as an opening Micro-Heki rooflight and that facility to open both back doors for the best of both worlds in terms of views and fresh air.
A pedestal leg table is supplied back here, too, but it’s more suited to two folk.
At night, it’s a straightforward enough operation to convert the settees to a flat, 1.86m x 1.32m double bed.
The Swift Carrera 244 front lounge comprises a typical arrangement of forward-facing double travel seat and both cab chairs swivelled, with dining for four assured thanks to a swing-out extension to the side-fixing table.
It’s also a typical kitchen for this level of campervan, extending partially across the sliding door entrance.
It’s home to a combination two-ring hob and sink in stainless steel, plus a clever slot-in worktop extension that stows separately for travel with a pop out waste bin.
There’s also a combined oven and grill, set low.
Storage includes a drawer under the hob and a single high-level locker, while the slimline Dometic fridge is a compressor model with a 90-litre capacity. Access is particularly easy, thanks to not just a dual-hinged door, but its high location over a wardrobe.
Opposite the kitchen, the washroom is accessed via a tambour door. The flip-down basin in here is a real space-saver, the trigger-operated Ecocamel showerhead a water-saver, with two plugholes underfoot, plus there are some really smart plastic mouldings, including for the upper-level locker.
It might be compact, but the washroom is comprehensive. As well as the near-ubiquitous Thetford swivel-bowl toilet, there’s a mirror, a drop-down hanging rail for wet clothing etc and a fold-out double hook, while the toilet roll holder includes a plastic cover to prevent any shower water getting at it.
A Micro-Heki rooflight takes care of the ventilation.
The Fiat base comes with the 2.2-litre 140bhp engine and manual transmission as standard (the auto option will set you back the best part of £3,000). It also has Fiat’s Eco Pack, which includes start-stop, smart alternator and electronically-controlled fuel pump.
The cab sports Fiat’s latest infotainment system with 10in touchscreen, DAB radio, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity and satnav. There’s also automatic air conditioning.
The 2025 Swift Carrera 244 campervan has just one exterior colour choice – the Lanzarote Grey you can see here, with Fiat’s latest front grille design. Alloy wheels are standard, too. Plus, Swift has added external gas and shower points.
Indeed, throughout, equipment levels are high – ranging from 110W solar panel to a Thule awning, Whale blown air heating and hot water systems, wireless phone charger along with a good spread of USB and 230V sockets, plenty of LED lighting (ambient and direct), twin 80Ah leisure batteries, fully winterised water tanks (93-litre fresh, 58-litre waste) with electronically operated dump valves, and more.
Details include stain-resistant upholstery, the neat armrest with double USB port for rear seat travellers, full flyscreen for the sliding door, easy-operating locker door catches, concertina blinds and flyscreens to all windows aft of the cab, plus a flip-down tabletop when you open the sliding door, which is bound to come in handy.
It’s not short of rivals, for sure. And it’s not the only one that comfortably exceeds the £80,000 price point. But, it’s a great place to start.
