Latest addition to the Go-Pod range is the Flex, which the manufacturer says represents the next generation of these distinctive mini caravans. Treat this, however, as an early taster of what might be to come because – despite an initial airing at the Motorhome and Caravan Show in 2024, there are still developments in the offing.
In this video, Chris from Red Lion Caravans gives us a tour of the all-new Go-Pod Flex micro tourer:
A modern micro tourer
There’s confirmation that due to customer feedback this next generation of Go-Pod will be all-electric. But the Go-Pod Flex (there’s a hint in the name) will also be more flexible in terms of exact locations and configurations for wardrobes, drawers etc.
So, take the floorplan diagram here as something of a starting template. Design-wise, it’s a story of complete change not just in terms of looks, but thanks also to the increased use of sustainable materials.
What you can also expect, compared to earlier Go-Pod models, are upgrades such as formed sheet metal overhead lockers, insulated wall cladding, the use of warm-to-the-touch marine quality cork flooring, shelving in the seating area, better storage all-round (including the toilet locker), a new table design offering three configurations etc.
By the time the Go-Pod Flex goes into production, the plan is also to have fittings like a bespoke touchscreen control panel, so the 12V (lighting, taps etc) and 230V circuitry, including heating, can be controlled from one place.
The general caravan layout sees a U-shaped lounge, with pedestal leg table, that converts to a sleeping area at night towards the front, featuring a new bed design that allows you to set it up as either a single bed or full double.
Just inside the back door, as well as an induction hob (although you can revert to gas if you want, and there may even be alternative fuels in future), the kitchen gets a small sink (with cover) and a Dometic compressor fridge (12V only).
A 700Watt microwave oven and Propex electric blown air heater are among the Go-Pod Flex’s standard fittings.
Also, there are plans to offer an electric off-grid package, comprising a 300Ah lithium battery and inverter which could operate the 2,800Watt induction hob at full power for anything up to 12 hours.
You may well want to ask Go-Pod about exterior colour choices, alternative upholsteries and more, too.
But it’s that distinctive bodywork that defines Go-Pod. It’s a GRP mould with a gelcoat finish, and it comes from Portugal, with the interior fitting-out taking place here in the UK. And, although it’s only small, the elevating roof section makes all the difference in terms of standing height where you need it most inside, with panels in its canvas sides, also allowing for high-level ventilation.
If you want more living space in the Go-Pod Flex, consider either of the inflatable awning and annexe options, which also means you can take the sleeping accommodation up to as many as six berths.
