It’s hard to believe the Elddis Avante 868 caravan took its first bow in 2020. Back then, prices started at some £24,500 and it tipped the scales at a maximum 1,800kg. Fast forward five years and, sure enough, it’s put on a little weight – its MTPLM starting at 1,745kg but also with the chance to upgrade to 2,000kg. Then again, this is just the sort of caravan you may simply want to pitch permanently rather than take out on the roads.
In this video, we take a look around the 2025 Elddis Avanté 868 caravan:
The particularly family-friendly caravan layout stays exactly the same, of course. And it remains a big twin axle unit that excels in its offering of living space.
But, for 2025, Elddis is inviting buyers to build their own Avante 868 caravan by choosing from a stack of options packs – at least some of which add the kinds of security items that will save you a few pounds on your caravan insurance.
Key to the Elddis Avante 868 caravan remains its beds arrangement, particularly at the back, where there’s a French bed (presumably for the parents) alongside two bunk beds (for the smaller kids?) – literally, just a wardrobe’s width away.
There are also two more sleeping berths to be had from the twin settees in the front lounge – choose between 1.83m x 0.72m singles or a palatial 2.12m x 1.43m double.
Those beds at the back have one-piece mattresses on slatted bases. The French double bed has maximum dimensions of 1.90m x 1.19m – also with hinged access to the storage area in its base – and the fixed bunks are both 1.91m x 0.59m.
Forward of the bedroom, there’s a fully plastic-lined shower cubicle with Ecocamel showerhead on a riser bar and other fittings with a chrome finish.
Open the toilet room door adjacent and you can seal off your ensuite washing facilities from the rest of the living quarters. There’s also a sliding door should you wish for a completely private dressing area across the width of the vehicle.
The toilet room has the usual swivel-bowl loo and countertop handbasin offerings, plus a large mirror, two double-doored lockers, blown air outlet, a couple of clothes hooks on the door, toilet roll and toothbrush mug holders etc.
The kitchen in the Elddis Avante 868 is next door to the washroom on the nearside, with the kind of cooker you’d want in a family ‘van – dual fuel hob, separate oven and grill – along with a good sized circular sink in black. There are two mains sockets near the permanent worktop, plus a flip-up extension to its left.
At 145 litres, the Dometic fridge with removable freezer box, like the rest of the kitchen, has the capacity to cater for the whole family. Over this is a traditional revolving plate Russell Hobbs microwave oven. There’s also a good feeling of space here – as indeed there is throughout the whole of this Avante 868 caravan.
Most of the clothes storage will be looked after by the wardrobe set over three drawers between the fridge and the entrance door. Don’t forget there’s also a wardrobe in the bedroom – with high- and lower-level rails.
Up front, it’s a traditional style lounge with settees either side of a chest of drawers, although full wrap-around seating is among the options.
Along with the aforementioned Packs, and a few more individual extras, building up your ideal family caravan is where the fun starts.
