2025 Buccaneer Barracuda caravan review

Among the forerunners for the latest trend for extra-wide bodied tourers, the Buccaneer brand has also long been associated with luxury.

Like all its four other Buccaneer stablemates, the 2025 season Barracuda caravan sports GRP sides in silver. There are more curves to current Buccaneer caravans, too. Also, a full-width front locker, chrome grab handles, flush-fitting windows etc, while the inset step on the drawbar moulding means you can get up to wash the vehicle’s front. Buccaneer spotters will also notice the internal walls are now one piece.

This premium, twin axle, 8-ft wide tourer follows a popular floorplan – an L-shaped front lounge, rear island bed, split washroom facilities, central kitchen.

It’s not hard to miss an obvious attraction of a lounge like this – the offside’s otherwise solid wall is home to a 32-inch flatscreen TV and the seating arrangement allows a small party in on the viewing.

For dining, there’s a free-standing table that stows in a dedicated locker when not needed. There’s certainly no lack of daylight getting in at the front end, either – thanks, especially, to the Sky-Scape opening sunroof running virtually the whole length of the lounge.

Another particular feature of all Buccaneers is the dark wood furniture finish, complemented by a lighter upholstery. The kitchen lockers have an off-white finish, too, helping distinguish this area from the rest of the living quarters.

There’s a slight L-shape to the kitchen where, as you’d expect, features are of the highest order. Hence the full cooker, large sink, storage including slide-out chrome racking and opposite a full fridge/freezer plus microwave oven.

Not just in the kitchen, but throughout the 2025 Buccaneer Barracuda, the lockers and drawers have particularly easy opening actions.

That extra sense of space afforded by a wider body is most prevalent in the bedroom where, rather than go for an extra-wide bed, the Buccaneer designers have stayed with a 1.90m x 1.34m mattress area that allows plenty of floor space to both sides, for easy access to the wardrobes and drawers storage.

The bed itself retracts should you want even more floor space in the daytime. The whole frame is also on gas struts so it can be lifted up for access to the extensive underbed storage area. Note also there’s a full-scale padded headboard.

The personal hygiene facilities are a shower cubicle on the nearside and toilet room directly opposite, with the usual door’s facility to create a full-width washroom with dressing space. The former is plastic-lined and has an Ecocamel Orbit showerhead on a riser bar. If you prefer to do your showering outdoors there’s also an external socket.

Across in the toilet room, there’s a swivel-bowl loo, and a countertop basin, plus a radiator/towel rail. There’s no lack of storage, either, with high- and low-level lockers as well as some open shelving.

Safety and security score high on the Buccaneer Barracuda caravan, thanks to standard fittings like the Tracker tracking system (it has a Thatcham S7 rating), ATC stability control, Al-Ko Diamond Secure wheel locks, also a PIR alarm. These will all help to reduce your caravan insurance premium.

Other standard features range from a 100Watt solar panel to an Alde central heating system that also includes underfloor warming, even an electric, automatic self-levelling system that gives six-point stabilisation and will have your Barracuda caravan level in just a couple of minutes.

Details that add to the luxury feel include brushed metal curtain poles, heavy-duty flooring with thick-cut carpet overlays, and ActivCare upholstery that’s pet-friendly.

As is so often the way with the heaviest caravans (admittedly they’re also the best equipped), there’s not a lot of payload to play with.
