Using Volkswagen’s Crafter as a base is an instant indication that you’re going to be getting an upmarket motorhome… and pay accordingly.
Playing with pricing and taking it to the Max
Adria adds another string to its coachbuilt motorhome bow for the 2025 season with the Compact Max series – all three low-profile coachbuilts based on the impressive bigger sister to the Transporter from VW.
In this video, we take a look around the 2025 Adria Compact Max DL motorhome:
Actually, the term Compact is something of a misnomer here. The Max DL is not so far short of 7.5m long. But, it is particularly slim, at just 2.17m. And it boasts a floorplan that will be familiar to watchers of popular motorhomes of recent times – two permanent single beds over a garage at the back, central kitchen and washroom, forward lounge.
What you also get as standard in the Adria Compact Max DL motorhome is the All Inclusive Pack – Truma Combi D 6E diesel heating and hot water system, 100Ah leisure battery, rearview camera, TV holder, cab blinds, carpets throughout, Thetford Duplex oven/grill, slatted frame and sprung mattress beds, awning, kitchen drainer, bike rack mounting points etc.
The downside is it shaves over 100kg off the initial payload, giving you just 308kg. So, the Volkswagen Luxury Pack might well be your next port of call. Here, you have the kind of base vehicle features you’d expect in a £100,000-plus motorhome – the Discover Pro infotainment system (with 12in screen), automatic air conditioning, Lights and Vision Package, alloy wheels, blind spot monitoring, heated leather steering wheel and more.
And it ups the maximum chassis weight to 4,000kg. But, it also takes the weight over the 3,050kg unladen limit that means you’re restricted to 50mph and 60mph on single and dual carriageways respectively here in the UK.
Other options include a choice of three cushion styles. Or you can go for leather, again with a choice of three finishes, plus more.
There’s certainly a distinctive exterior to the Compact Max series. The cab is Volkswagen’s Indium Grey metallic, complemented by the silver finish to Adria’s coachbuilding and flush-fitting windows. Note also UK versions will be right hand drive. Surefooted and modern, this is one of the best driving motorhome chassis-cabs in the current crop.
Officially, Adria calls this a two-berth for sleeping accommodation, with steps up to the two single beds at the back, which can also be made into a double.
There are windows to both sides, plus a large opening rooflight, but you might struggle to sit upright because of the bank of lockers across the back wall – which is a bit of shame, as a bracket is fitted for watching TV from bed. A fabric divider curtain affords bedroom privacy, slotting neatly away when not needed.
The 2025 Adria Compact Max DL motorhome is a four-berth for travel, though, as the inward-facing settees can be converted into travel seats, when needed. Also, the fixed pedestal leg table has a hinged top to make access easy to the rest of the living quarters.
Beyond the lounge, the kitchen has a two-ring hob, a separate sink with a loose cover, and the oven/grill combination.
There’s good drawer storage, with some rather nifty retractable catches. Food storage is a dual-hinged Dometic fridge, set high enough to accommodate a wardrobe underneath.
Directly opposite the kitchen, the washroom has tambour door access and Adria’s space-conquering Duplex arrangement, whereby the hinged wall with the handbasin on it swings around to make a dedicated area for showering.
Plus there’s an all-important window as well as neat features like the rail for hanging wet clothing, hooks and very modern plugholes.
Like the rest of this motorhome, it’s smart, well put together and certainly not lacking in style.
