Classic two-berth floorplan. Well equipped. Reasonably light and attractively priced. What’s not to like about the Affinity 520 from Elddis?
That white exterior has GRP sides – the switch from aluminium being the main upgrade for the 2024 season – and an even shinier gloss finish this season (2024), with what Elddis calls, without a hint of understatement, “by far the most UV-resistant material in the world”.
The Elddis Affinity 520 caravan has clear-cut, almost boxy, lines and exterior graphics kept to a minimum. Alloys wheels and grey trimwork – including the front locker door – help give bit of a lift, while fittings like the Al-Ko stabiliser and ATC electronic anti-snaking device (which can make your insurance cheaper!) as standard provide reassurance on the towing front.
In standard trim, the 126kg payload is a bit parsimonious. If your towcar is up to it, you might want to replate to 1,500kg to up the load capacity to 281kg – for no extra cost.
In this video, we take a look inside the all-new Elddis Affinity 520 caravan:
Two’s company
Inside the Elddis Affinity 520 caravan, it’s a traditional front lounge, end washroom caravan layout.
Furniture has a dark finish, upholstery is light in colour, with a Heki Stargazer opening rooflight above. The twin settees are quick to convert to beds – either two 1.93m x 0.68m wide singles or a 1.93m x 1.56m double. The benefit of either bed arrangement is you still have easy access to the washroom and kitchen.
The Affinity also has things covered when it comes to on-board entertainment. There’s a Pioneer stereo system that can be linked to your smartphone, and the unit opposite the kitchen is set up to take a television.
The kitchen is along the offside, with a full cooker (dual-fuel hob, separate oven and grill) on the far right, stainless steel rectangular sink, which comes with a loose cover/chopping board, and permanent worktop.
Twin mains sockets are handily located by the worktop area, under which is a 98-litre fridge. A microwave oven is over the TV station across the corridor.
Across the back of the Elddis Affinity 520 caravan, the washroom is large. Make that, extremely large. It’s home to a part-circular shower cubicle with water-saving Ecocamel showerhead on a riser bar.
To the left of the shower is a swivel-bowl toilet (with window beyond and double locker above it) while on the right is a countertop basin on a unit that also offers a double-door locker, plus a large mirror.
Completing the washroom is one of the most extensive wardrobes you’ll find in any tourer, of any size. It comes with extensive hanging rail space, plus open shelving.
Alde heating, easily operated and programmable via its own touchscreen, tops the bill when it comes to the Affinity specification. You also get a Teleco directional TV aerial, illuminated gas locker, spare wheel and underslung carrier, bike rack fixing points etc.
Lighting is a good array of downlighters, plus high- and low-level ambient strips, as well as individually switched reading lamps in the lounge.
A classic two-berth tourer then, that’s been around long enough to have ironed out any early glitches.
