Well, nobody can accuse Coachman of being coy… here’s its first venture into the A-class motorhome sector and it’s an almighty near-9m long, tag axle, Mercedes-based monolith.
It’s minted!
It also comes with a price tag that tops £200,000 but, unlike many a typical A-class luxury liner, it’s pretty much a one-spec-suits-all offering.
In this video we take a look around the 2024 Coachman Travel Master Imperial 845 motorhome:
Conceived in collaboration with Kabe, Coachman’s Swedish owner – which itself has a long history of making motorhomes to suit the harshest of weather conditions, this Coachman variation is not just suited to all manner of grand touring, it’s also equipped to UK expectations.
That bodywork is very much tried and tested, for example. Sides and roof aluminium-clad (i.e. the same material is used for the external and internal walls), which helps overall strength as well as insulation. The rear panel is ABS.
From here, the roster of standard kit includes Alde central heating system plus underfloor heating and heated cab carpeting, habitation air conditioning, leather upholstery, 150Watt solar panel, upmarket sound system, 1,800Watt inverter… it’s an almost endless list. Even the 5.5m long Thule electric awning is included.
Opulence surrounds you. That kitchen worktop is genuine Corian. Washroom and kitchen fittings have a real chrome finish. Lounge seating backrests are high.
In the cab area, the key feature is Mercedes’ MBUX infotainment system, with 10.25in display, DAB radio, sat nav, reversing camera and more.
With a 5,500kg maximum weight, you’re going to need C1 status on your driving licence. Also, with an initial mass of 4,625kg, this Coachman falls foul of a quirk in the UK whereby motorhomes with a starting weight over 3,050kg are restricted to 50mph and 60mph on single and dual carriageways respectively. That’s despite plenty of oomph from the 170bhp engine and silky smooth nine-speed automatic transmission.
The Coachman Travel Master Imperial 845 floorplan holds few surprises. There’s an island double bed at the back and the front end comprises a super-size lounge around a fixed pedestal leg table, with an electrically operated drop-down bed overhead.
The central kitchen is L-shaped and features a three-burner hob and an oven and grill.
The sink is inset with a loose cover/chopping board and an extravagant mixer tap. Drawer storage has a central locking facility and there’s a Dometic microwave oven adjacent to the high-level locker.
The only bugbear is the high level of the small oven/grill, over the 171-litre fridge/freezer.
Washroom facilities in the Travel Master Imperial 845 motorhome are split between a shower cubicle and toilet room. There latter is plastic-lined shower cubicle, although it’s a slight surprise to see only one plughole here.
A swivel-bowl toilet and fixed handbasin complete the main washroom fittings, the latter inset into an angled section of work surface.
That rear bedroom lacks for little. As well as a supremely comfortable mattress, the bed is flanked by wardrobes and long ledges. There’s the facility to angle the upper sections for sitting up in bed. Windows to each side are a decent size, while overhead is a roof vent with a fan where you might expect a large sunroof.
Underneath, needless to say it’s a huge garage area, supplemented by more exterior-access storage trays that take advantage of the double-floor construction.
As we say, there’s just the one factory-fitted option, although there could be conversations to be had with your supplying dealer about adding anything from a bike rack to a satellite TV system to the kind of tracker and other motorhome security measures that you’ll need to insure a high value motorhome like this.
Travel Master? Imperial? The names sum it all up.

Looks fantastic. Is it really worth the difference in the price tag from the TravelMaster (not Imperial model)?
Very formative
