Among two new – or rather, upgraded – models from Coachman unveiled for the 2024 season is this, the Laser 665 Xtra caravan.
Taking a wider berth
It’s a reworking of the previous 665, but with a wider body (now 2.44m) on its twin axle chassis.
The rear twin single beds floorplan is the same, but those beds are significantly wider than before (up to a far more comfortable 86.5cm) and there are upgrades to the kitchen and the washroom, as well as the usual tweaks you’d expect when it comes to any new-season model.
The 665 takes its place in a line-up of three Laser Xtra models at the top end of the Coachman caravan portfolio.
There’s an instantly recognisable Coachman look to the fully-bonded exterior, with its two front locker design and details such as grab handles picked out in black.
While features such as the heavy-duty corner steadies, one-piece door with windows, silver-grey sides, 10-spoke alloy wheels, and more, point to the unashamedly premium nature of this tourer.
Like all current Coachman caravans, the bodywork comes with a 10-year water ingress warranty.
Step inside the Coachman Laser 665 Xtra caravan and you’ll instantly recognise a floorplan that, despite offering four berths, is always going to be more popular with couples who want permanent single beds and more than just a smattering of luxury.
You’ll note, also, a switch to Thetford (from Dometic) for some of the key appliances – like the (even bigger) 159-litre fridge, the sink and the oven.
The kitchen and copious washroom continue to be star players. The latter is split between one of the largest shower cubicles you’ll encounter in any caravan and a toilet room. Solid doors can be used to enclose both areas and create a full-width washroom area with plenty of space for dressing etc.
The L-shaped kitchen lacks for little in terms of space (storage and worktop) as well as kit. The microwave oven is a notable upgrade – it’s now a flat bed model.
It’s a straight walk-through to those single beds, set low for easy access. They’re a generous 1.93m (6ft 4in) long and wider. At the front, you can go for two child-size singles from the existing settees or, if you want to cater for larger bodies, you can make a transverse double that’s some 2.18m x 1.39m (7ft 2in x 4ft 7in).
There are also details touches throughout the Coachman Laser 665 Xtra – including the double USB and USB-C portals, to the kitchen sink tap – in chrome and black – with its flexible spout that can also be left facing upwards for travel to prevent those small splashes.
In fact, the black trim colour appears elsewhere… like the multi-directional reading lights with integrated USB sockets.
Other enhancements include a Teleco TV aerial with DAB/FM connectivity, a 40-litre tank for fresh water, soft-close locker doors and the usual new-season changes to furniture finish and soft furnishings.
A slight surprise is a solar panel is still only an option. There is a benefit here, though, because you might want to go for more power than the 100Watt factory-fit offering.
As with the 2023 season, you’ll want to get in sharp-ish to avoid any price increase planned for later in the season. Indeed, there’s also the early offer of a complimentary Powrtouch motor mover as a further enticement for early orders.

The caravan is the same design as the bailey Cadiz, but a little more spacious. I like the separation compartment to the rear bedroom. However, as a safety extra it would be a good idea to have an extra smoke detector, C0 detector as its a closed compartment especially if it children sleeping in there with phone chargers etc. as its a sealed compartment.
I feel a little over priced the time you put motor movers on, awning etc. I appreciate they may be seen as extra, but you wont have a caravan that size without them. Lets hope we don’t go all electric too soon. No all electric vehicle will tow a caravan that size any distance at the moment.
