quoteBritain’s most cost-effective brand new caravan? Check this out. You could have a basic Campmaster Duo caravan for less than £12,000 and – although its appeal undoubtedly goes beyond more mainstream caravanners – there’s no arguing with what you get for your money.
We take a look around the Campmaster Duo GLX caravan:
The actual body width is just 1.55m, while the wheel arches account for another 50cm. On review here, however, is the “deluxe” version – the Campmaster Duo GLX caravan – which boasts a number of features over the standard Duo to make your caravanning that bit more comfortable and normally retails from £14,499*.
Light and easy does it
Needless to say, any Campmaster caravan is also incredibly light and isn’t going to trouble your towcar’s economy over much.
Also, such is the main construction – an all fibreglass-clad body with Styrofoam insulation and timber-free framework on a Knott galvanised chassis – it’s all set for a particularly long life.
That’s a solid, one-piece rear door, too, complete with three locking points and a heavy-duty clip for holding it open.
It even comes with an Isabella Shade sun canopy, which attaches to the rail over the back door and also comes with sides to turn the canopy into a full awning. Alternatively, you can opt for a Dometic Leggera Air inflatable awning.
If the outside of the Campmaster Duo GLX caravan holds all the clues, inside is a continuation of the function-over-form theme. A permanent bed, located towards the front, is a commendable 1.88m x 1.50m but, as you can probably guess, actual living space is at something of a premium.
Just inside the door, on the nearside, the kitchen is restricted to a stainless steel sink, while there’s space for an induction hob (one of the items that come as standard if you go for the GLX over the standard Duo) on the permanent worktop to its right, a locker directly below the sink and open space to its right.
Another GLX offering is the electric coolbox that fills the gap at floor level here. Over the sink, there are a couple of holders, again in stainless steel, designed for mugs or similar.
Over these is a single high-level locker plus a strip of open shelving.
On the opposite side, there’s space for a full-height wardrobe with the leisure battery housed in its base. Also on the side is an electric radiator heater. Another locker sits over the wardrobe.
There’s mains hook-up for the Campmaster Duo GLX caravan. And you get a leisure battery. A portable solar panel, external storage box, and cushioned backrest (to turn the end of the bed into a settee) complete the GLX specification. And a five-year warranty should be enough to put you at ease.
A small caravan like this is all about functionality. There’s barely a curve in sight, outside or in. But it certainly does more than it says on its double-skinned tin.
