Having concerns about towing with your next vehicle, especially if you want to go electric? How about a trailer tent like this?
Light, fantastic
It’s particularly light, easy to manoeuvre and even store – there’s a facility to put it on its side if you fancy slotting it away in your garage at home.
In this video, we take a look at the 2024 Camp-Let Earth trailer tent at the 2024 Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show:
As you’ll have surmised, such a compact unit is also simple to hitch up to and tow – by nearly any car, including electrics. It’s also highly efficient on whichever fuel you’re using. Due to lower purchase prices and risk factors than a typical touring caravan, premiums for trailer tent insurance tend to be relatively low. Do remember though there’ll likely still be a minimum security requirement on insurance policies such as a wheel clamp or hitchlock to deter thieves.
There are no worries about your rearward view being obstructed, either – the trailer sits less than a metre from the ground and it’s narrow enough not to need towing mirrors.
The Earth joined the Camp-let portfolio for the 2024 season. With Camp-let part of the Isabella family, hence the better quality fabrics you get on these trailers – an acrylic (trade name Isacryl) that’s going to stand up to the full spectrum of weathers, but it’s also breathable, which makes for far more comfortable living conditions – again, whatever the weather. It’s also quick drying and easy to clean.
But it all starts with the substantial trailer unit, with its main bodywork in marine grade GRP and strong enough to add bikes and other loads, as needed. There’s metal, too – again superior quality stainless steel or aluminium, plus struts. And it comes with corner steadies and smart alloy wheels.
The side-hinged tailgate section of the Camp-let Earth trailer tent is designed to hold a kitchen – here, there’s a choice of three, starting with the All Round variant without a hob.
Shown here, however, is the more expensive (£1,449) Deluxe, comprising a two-ring gas hob, permanent worktop space (including room for a chopping board), extension section for a washing-up bowl and storage accessed via four doors as well as open racking below. It also comes with a stand-alone water carrier, pipework and pump.
It’s a standard enough setting-up routine when on site, with either bedroom folding out from the main trailer body and a large canvas living area to pitch.
Folded out, the dimensions of the Camp-let Earth trailer tent are some 4.00m wide x 5.75m deep x 2.30m high.
There’s lots of window space, including in the ceiling – all with UV protection – and lots of ventilation. Both the front and sides can be fully unzipped and removed altogether if needed. You also get veranda poles so the sides can be folded down to create ventilation. At night, roll-down curtains give full blackout.
Add the awning and/or sun canopy options and you can extend what’s already a pretty substantial living area. There are also options to add an annexe (for sleeping or storage) on either or both sides.
Those bedrooms have dark canvas to block out light for the best possible sleeping conditions. And there’s some essential ventilation. Each of the beds are 2m x 1.40m.
Other standard features of the Camp-let Earth trailer tent include storage pockets in and in front of the sleeping cabin, storage pockets in the pelmets, a luggage compartment under the trailer and a “wardrobe bar” hanging rail. But you’ll soon be weighing up the options – just some of which are listed opposite – to enhance your comfort as well as your living conditions.
