The Buccaneer caravan exterior look might not have changed but there’s one upgrade to report – 2024 models now have GRP sides in the same silver as before.
Luxury lines
Like the rest of the five-model Buccaneer line-up, the Cruiser caravan is 2.45m wide. It’s a twin axle, and it’s heavy. It has a typical three-window front, plus a fixed pane and a longer, opening “Sky-Scape” sunroof overhead. The entrance door is one-piece with a tall fixed window.
In this video, we take a look inside the all-new Buccaneer Cruiser caravan.
It also boasts a highly popular caravan floorplan, which you’ll see in other tourers of all shapes, sizes and budgets – but this just happens to be one of the most opulent of them all, with its transverse island double bed and a full-width washroom at the back.
It’s certainly a specification from the very top drawer. E&P self-levelling system, 100Watt Truma solar panel, Pioneer stereo with Apple/Android compatibility, Alde central heating (including underfloor) and lots more are on its standard inventory.
Needless to say, with this level of tourer you’re also getting a high level of security features as standard, starting with a Tracker Thatcham S7 approved tracking system (with the first year’s subscription included) and a PIR alarm, which will attract a healthy discount on your caravan insurance premium.
As you’d expect here, everything is large inside the Buccaneer Cruiser caravan – lounge, bedroom and kitchen, right through to the washroom – all helped by the extra width of the vehicle. The furniture has a dark wood finish, complemented by light upholstery (with leather a popular Buccaneer option).
The lounge has twin settees, with a choice of a chest of drawers or extra cushions to make the seating U-shaped (as in our review model). And you get lots of extra comfort, including a couple of bolsters and three different sizes of scatter cushions.
Beyond the lounge, there’s a spacious kitchen area along the offside of the Buccaneer Cruiser. Equipment includes a Thetford full cooker with a rectangular sink on its left, served by a thin swan-neck Caraflo mixer tap.
There’s also lots of storage in the kitchen unit, including a large low-level locker with slide-out racks.
Across the corridor is a Dometic full-height fridge/freezer with dual-hinged doors for access from either side, and a Russell Hobbs traditional microwave oven with glass plate.
That island bed is 1.90m x 1.35m. It’s retractable, so there’s lots of space when you want to get past it to the washroom. The water tank is in the bed base but there’s still plenty of storage space here and the framework is particularly easy to lift up.
Either side of the bed is a wardrobe plus a slide-out ledge which is perfect for placing odds and ends you might need at night. There are two more drawers and a floor locker one side of the bed, all drawers the other. Plus two overhead lockers.
Also at the foot of the bed is a bit of worktop that will undoubtedly do service as a dresser unit, with mains and double USB sockets handily nearby. There are also suitable sockets for using a TV here.
Completing the Buccaneer Cruiser’s bedroom are a single window and a Midi Heki rooflight. Beyond, there’s sliding door access to the washroom with a toilet just inside and a window behind.
There’s a stylish countertop handbasin with a mirror-doored locker over it and another locker over the window. There’s also some open shelving for use when you’re on-site.
A washroom highlight is the very generous shower cubicle in the far corner, complete with folding doors, an Ecocamel Orbit showerhead and a clothes hanging rail, but there’s just the one plughole.
A possible downside to the Buccaneer Cruiser caravan is the limited payload, although the counter to this is there’s pretty much all the kit you’re going to need already on-board. A maximum weight upgrade is available at no extra cost, although it only gives you an extra 50kg of load capacity.
Verdict: Luxury abounds in this big Buccaneer
Plus: Sky-high specification, roomy throughout, twin axle stability
Minus: The usual weight and price gripes
In-a-nutshell: A big bruiser of a Cruiser

We loved this caravan when we bought it. However….. Build quality is not great and there’s been a history of issues with it. (leaks, dampness, electrics) The customer support was close to useless, however on a positive in the last 6 months this has improved.
A point to those who use fields rather than hard standing, the self levelling is not fit for purpose as it doesn’t cope with the caravan weight. I would definitely go back to manual jack system with hydraulics just on centre jacks.
Won of the worse caravans I have ever owned fell apart in 3 yrs
Sorry to hear about that Robert
