Indeed, the Elddis Crusader Zephyr’s closest rivals from other manufacturers have that 8ft width, too. Which makes it somewhat unique.
Championing luxury
Its overall body width is an altogether slimmer 2.30m, which many folk will find more comfortable towing with, especially as it’s a twin axle caravan, with all that entails for on-road stability – yet it loses little in terms of interior space (that island bed is retractable, for example), and you’ll have few complaints about the overall specification.
True, it still weighs in at a fairly hefty 1,800kg maximum, but you can consider that fairly typical for a well-equipped twin-axle tourer.
There’s certainly a bit of swagger to the exterior colouring (official name, Champagne), with white for the leading edges, locker door surrounds etc, finished off by details such as the chrome grab handles, single front locker and heavy duty corner steadies. The main door is stable-type with a window to its top half and a waste bin on the inside.
There’s a bit of style to the interior of the Elddis Crusader Zephyr too, although do note the lounge in our images has the leather upholstery option – its light colouring even more enhanced by the extra daylight that floods in thanks to the three-windowed front, generous side windows, a fixed sunroof and an opening Heki Lux Stargazer that runs almost the whole length of the lounge.

With a whopping 153-litre fridge/freezer as the star player in the kitchen, key supporting roles go to the full Thetford cooker (three gas rings, electric hotplate, separate oven and grill) and the large, rectangular sink immediately alongside, served by a swan-necked, lever-operated mixer tap.
A bugbear, for some, will be the microwave oven location, set high over the fridge, but among the plus points are the acrylic splash panel and side-by-side mains sockets, as well as the generous kitchen storage opportunities (two drawers, two floor lockers, large cupboard, four upper level lockers).
Washing facilities in the Elddis Crusader Zephyr sit over the axles – a shower cubicle on the nearside, toilet room across the corridor. Doors here can create a full-width washroom with changing space, or give extra bedroom privacy, as and when needed.
The shower room has folding doors and plastic-lined walls and ceiling, with an Ecocamel showerhead on a riser bar set in the corner. Just the one plughole is a minus, but the drop-down hanging rail is a plus. Also, rather than an unwanted intrusion, the wheel arch means somewhere to put your feet when washing your lower limbs.
The toilet room has a swivel-bowl loo and a shaped countertop basin, supplemented by a large mirror and a chrome “ladder” radiator, plus there’s lower- and upper-level locker storage – the latter a double-door unit with open shelving each side.
Siting the bed transversely of courses saves space (and helps keep overall vehicle length down), plus it’s retractable should you wish for easier daytime access. It’s flanked by wardrobes over cupboards, with handy bed-level ledges, plus there are two overhead lockers.
Elddis puts down some luxury markers with the likes of Alde’s “wet” central heating and hot water system, a 40-litre fresh water tank, gas auto change-over valve and more. Don’t forget, also, the Compass Camino 650 is the Zephyr’s badge-engineered twin – identical but for different colour schemes.
Verdict: Elddis ups the style, keen pricing for an upmarket twin axle
Plus: Generously equipped with a smatter of style, twin axle towing stability
Minus: Just the one shower outlet, high-set microwave oven
