A whole lotta lounge!
It’s a measure of the success of any caravan if its range is increased – hence the fourth member of Elddis’s flagship Buccaneer brand, unveiled for the 2021 season.
Like its stablemates, the Buccaneer Bermuda caravan is extra-wide, extra-specified and extra premium. The roll-call of standard specification is almost unlimited. Highlights are the E&P automatic hydraulic self-levelling system and underfloor heating, the latter part of an Alde system, plus a 32in screen TV in the lounge.
Ah yes, the lounge. With its settees in an L-shape – note also the angled backrests and chunky bolster cushions – it’s all set-up for spacious sprawling.
It’s an imposing tourer – 8ft wide and pretty handsome, with its silver sides, grey finish to the hatches and white detail work elsewhere.
Inside is just as opulent – starting with the kind of dark wood furniture finish that’s always associated with more expensive caravans.
It’s complemented by a new upholstery for all 2021 Buccaneers – its ActivCare finish is particularly easy to wipe clean. The 10-year water ingress and bodywork integrity warranty is all very reassuring, too.
Like its Buccaneer brethren, of course it’s no lightweight. The twin axles promise impeccable road manners, but you also get Al-Ko’s ATC and a 3004 stabiliser.
It’s an all-facilities kitchen, too in the Buccaneer Bermuda, right up to the 155-lite capacity fridge/freezer with a microwave oven set atop. Across the corridor, the spacious main kitchen unit is home to the usual full cooker (to its far left) with sink to its immediate right.
There’s a generous run of permanent worktop as well as an extensions section. You’re unlikely to struggle for storage here, either. Two mains sockets are conveniently close to hand, plus there are the usual practical features – the acrylic splashguard, for example – that’s you’d expect to find in a luxury leisure vehicle
Behind the kitchen zone, the en suite facilities are split between a shower cubicle and a toilet room, with the door for the latter also designed to shut off the rest of the living quarters when desired. That shower cubicle is almost domestic in terms of size and fittings – there’s a tile-effect lining, water-saving Ecocamel power-shower with lever operation, and a handy, retractable line for hanging wet clothing.
The toilet room has a heated towel rail/radiator, Thetford swivel-bowl toilet and a countertop basin. Again, there’s generous locker storage here and, although there’s a large mirror it doesn’t fully compensate for the lack of a window here.
Then there’s the joy of having your very own bedroom in the Buccaneer Bermuda. The transverse island bed is retractable, for when you need a bit of extra floorspace, and is flanked by wardrobes with handy ledges at mattress level.
Details abound. There’s lots of LED lighting – both direct and ambient; drawers are soft-closing; plenty of mains and USB sockets (and a wireless charger); generous use of sunroofs/larger rooflights; taps are finished in chrome; and more.
Plus security topping features such as Al-Ko Secure wheel locks, a Thatcham S7 Tracker tracking system (with 12 month inclusive subscription) and PIR alarm will all benefit from some healthy discounts on your caravan insurance premium with Caravan Guard.
Peruse the optional extras list opposite and you’ll see these latest Buccaneers lack for little apart from absolute luxury items. However, you might well be tempted by the superior comfort of the Hypnos mattress option – as used in Premier Inn hotels.
Verdict: L is for L-shaped lounge as well as luxury
Plus: Unlimited indulgence, sky-high specification
Minus: Heavy weight, Hypnos mattress only an option
In-a-nutshell: Top-end opulence? The Bucc’ stops here
