Hail the black cab!
Welcome, Kon-tiki Sport. A new-for-2020 motorhome range of 13 models if you take into account the different lounge/travel seating offerings. The 560 here, for example, can be ordered with standard lounge including a double forward-facing travel seat, as here; or there’s the “Lounge” variant which, at the same price, offers twin settees.
Unsurprisingly, all Kon-tiki Sport motorhomes share the same exterior look, with black cab, strong graphics and items such as the semi-recessed awning, solar panel, twin lens reversing camera and fixings for a bike rack at the back. Those pannier lockers on the outside are great for storing things like your hook-up cable, hosepipes and levelling ramps.
Only early-season versions of the 560 came with Fiat’s 150bhp Euro 6B engine. The rest get the latest Euro 6D 140bhp unit, although there’s the offer to upgrade and, or, order the new nine-speed automatic.
Of course, rear French bed models like this (the fixed double has a cutaway section to allow easier access to the washroom) have their place in most manufacturers’ line-ups. And yes, the floorplan follows a typical pattern, with a front lounge featuring double travel seat behind the driver and an inward-facing settee, complemented by swivel cab seats and a small table (ideal for two) that has an extra extension section should you want more space – or guests.
All the usual lounge luxury accompaniments are here, too – flatscreen TV holder, extra speakers for the cab stereo, a good array of LED lighting, including adjustable reading lights, overcab sunroof, USB charging points etc. Plus, there’s the warmth of Alde heating.
Moving back from the lounge, the kitchen offers full facilities, starting with a Thetford cooker (dual-fuel hob, separate oven and grill), plus a microwave oven and inset stainless steel sink with add-on plastic drainer. More features include a handy ledge near the sink, Omnivent and an acrylic splashback with LED illumination.
If storage is a bit limited – the main cupboard is where you’ll find the Alde boiler; the cutlery drawer is small – you won’t complain about the Dometic fridge, all 133 litres of it, complete with door hinged at both sides and a freezer compartment that can be removed altogether if you want all space for chilling.
Access is further eased by the fact the fridge is set off floor level.
There’s a small step up from the kitchen to the bedroom and washroom at the back. That bed measures in at some 1.90m long with a width of 1.24m tapering to 0.94m, while its height from the floor shouldn’t mean any access issues, although sitting upright in bed could be a challenge for taller folk.
As with all fixed bed Swifts, there’s a super comfortable Duvalay mattress (an Apollo Luxe model here). Convenience features go from individual reading lamps with dimmer function, corner ledges, a large side window and rooflight, pleated room divider, overhead lockers – all adding to the comfort factor.
En suite, the washroom is roomy enough for a separate, plastic-lined shower cubicle with Ecocamel Orbit outlet on a riser bar.
A swivel-bowl toilet takes centre stage in the washroom, with a fixed basin just inside the door. Storage includes upper, and lower-level lockers, plus a shelf for on-site use.
There’s an obvious lack of window, however. And you might find the single outlet in the shower and the sole towel holder minor niggles.
Other than that, the Swift Kon-tiki 560 Sport is a very well-rounded motorhome that isn’t afraid to add a dash of style to a generous specification that will also save you a bit on your motorhome insurance – thanks to safety and security fittings like the Swift Command Tracker (Thatcham Cat 7), VIN CHIP theft deterrent, reversing camera and the Connect Direct portal for instant access to all details about your vehicle.
In this video we take a look around the Swift Kon-tiki 560 Sport motorhome.
