The lounge wizard
Big on lounge. Big on washroom. A luxury touring experience for couples. That sums up the Auto-Sleeper Broadway EB motorhome. It’s also a perennial, award-winning favourite, having made its debut back in 2012.
Auto-Sleepers isn’t the only mainstream British manufacturer that continues to offer layouts that don’t go any further than permanent beds. Instead, with something like this Broadway motorhome, you get a more than generous lounge with settees at the front that can offer a 2.10m x 1.35m transverse double bed – or, at a push, two 1.93m x 0.70m singles – when night-time calls.
That’s also the kick off for a particularly spacious layout overall, especially considering the Auto-Sleeper Broadway motorhome is well under 21ft long. Key is, it’s ideal for couples (plus pets, although you’ll want to ask about restraints for safe travel). It’s also a layout with a full-width rear washroom that is also generous on space. And, of course, like any self-respecting UK-made luxury motorhome, there’s a particularly well-equipped kitchen.
Even from the outside, this looks the part. The main bodywork has a tough, knock resistant GRP finish and luxury cues range from alloy wheels to awning, flush-fitting windows and offside skirt locker, through to fixings for a bike rack at the back. Strangely, despite the impression, there’s no overcab sunroof – instead, you get a trio of internal lockers.
That lounge packs plenty of comfort. You can use a pedestal leg or a freestanding table (both are supplied) here, whilst the swivelled cab seats mean you could easily host six folk, possibly more, for parties. If you want things cosier, the Auto-Sleeper Broadway motorhome comes with slot-in settee armrests, and a variety of cushions, while the main seating uses a firm but very supportive reflex foam.
Note, too, there’s an alternative furniture finish as well as other soft furnishings.
The next most important area, by space allocated, is the washroom. Access is via a solid door, there’s a central countertop basin supplied by a swan-neck mixer tap. Far right of this is a sizeable shower compartment with tile-effect lining.
The washroom is angled, so you get optimum privacy for the bench toilet. It also means there’s dressing space. Fixtures and fittings don’t disappoint in here, either, with everything from a couple of storage lockers to a translucent window to towel holder, soap dish, large vanity mirror etc.
You’ll be storing most of your clothing in here, too, thanks to a generous wardrobe and a trio of drawers.
The kitchen also impresses for its equipment and logistics. Along the nearside, the unit houses a cooker with dual-fuel hob and separate oven and grill, next to which is a sink with add-on drainer.
Across the corridor is the fridge, microwave, generous worktop area plus slide-out section.
Kitchen storage includes four overhead lockers, five drawers and a couple of lower-level lockers, while practical touches include the extractor fan over the hob, the kitchen roll holder, cutlery tray, lots of power sockets (four 230V mains, one USB), even a couple of bottle clips.
Auto-Sleeper Broadway motorhomes come on Peugeot’s latest Boxer chassis, a bonus being the 165bhp engine is the standard offering (if you want automatic transmission you can swap to Fiat’s Ducato).
The only real bug-bear is the extra £2,500 you’ll pay for the Premium Pack option. But don’t worry, everyone who’s ever bought a Broadway has always specified it. Plus, you’ll get some savings on your motorhome insurance premium with the Sargent Cat 6 tracking device.
Verdict: Take two for top-level luxury touring
Plus: Excellent kit (if you include the Premium Pack), roomy layout with flat floor throughout, all the usual Auto-Sleeper attributes
Minus: Premium Pack’s £2,500 punch, no overcab sunroof
In-a-nutshell: Broadway is a showstopper!
