French beds are back!
Another addition to the Tracker line-up puts it at six models for 2019, but there’s lots of flexibility with the seating and sleeping options it you really want to individualise. This latest model, the EB, for example, starts off as a two-berth for travel, but you could order a half-dinette for the lounge if you need two extra travel seats.
There’s also a choice of overcabs – Hi-Line or, as here, Lo-Line, which sees the space over the cab being given to locker storage, as well as a swooping sunroof set into some smart plastic mouldings.
This example here has the standard seating offering, with a short settee behind cab seat. Note also, here, the optional cream leather upholstery.
If the exterior hasn’t already set the tone – from the graphite cab to the spare wheel carrier on the back panel, the cab underlines the upmarket/generous specification theme, with everything from steering wheel controls, silver dashboard trimwork, chrome surrounds to the instrument binnacles, Remis blinds and more.
Plus, there’s a drop-down TV monitor if you specify the Media Pack (which everyone always does, it should be said) – indeed, there’s a choice of two for Trackers, both of which include DAB radio and satellite navigation.
And the Thatcham Cat 6 approved tracking system, Auto-Trail Connect, can save you a fair bit on your motorhome insurance with Caravan Guard if you pay for the annual subscription.
As for the rest of the interior, despite the full-width washroom at the back, this Tracker still has something of an open plan layout.
The kitchen takes up much of the mid-‘van area. The main unit is L-shaped for space-efficiency. You get Thetford’s latest cooker (dual-fuel hob, separate oven and grill, plus a floor-level pan store). Lift the hob lid and an extractor comes on automatically (and stays on until it’s safe to close the cover again) – while there’s also an electric fan in the roof vent.
There’s also a sink with drainer and inset top, plus acrylic splash panelling, a microwave oven and comprehensive under-counter storage thanks to that L-shape.
Meanwhile, across the corridor, there’s a 142-litre Thetford slimline fridge with freezer.
Towards the back is the main bed, a 1.91m x 1.31m maximum width French double, set along the nearside.
Its sprung interior mattress sits on a slatted base with metal frame, which hinges up for underbed storage access.
Lockers line both sides over the bed, and there’s a large padded headboard section with LED reading lamps.
Adjacent, and immediately outside the washroom, is a vanity area with a generous mirror, next to a wardrobe over two drawers and a floor locker.
In standard front lounge format, it’s a relatively simple process to pull out each settee base for a second, transverse double bed.
Auto-Trail fans will recognise the end washroom format, with its more than generous shower cubicle – although it only has the one plughole.
There’s more than generous storage in here, too – thanks to a selection of lockers as well as open shelving, plus a towel holder and a double clothes hook on the back of the door. The washroom also benefits from an illuminated mirror at the basin, plus an opening window for optimum ventilation.
Do delve into the standard kit list to see just how much you get for your money here. The aftersales backing of five-year warranties for the chassis and conversion, as well as 10 years for the GRP-clad bonded bodywork, which now also uses aluminium interfaces for greater rigidity, complete the Tracker package.
Verdict: A generous blend of luxury and style
Plus: High on equipment, key upgrades for 2019, all-round comfort, large shower, UK-specification kitchen
Minus: Check those weights (MiRO and MTPLM), table’s underbed storage location.
In-a-nutshell: A cracker of a Tracker with a pre-installed tracker
Alternatives: Auto-Sleeper Broadway FB, Swift Bessacarr 584
