The Swift Sprite Major 4FB is a popular layout with an end washroom, fixed double bed on the nearside and parallel front end. The kitchen is on the offside and has a three burner gas hob with an oven and grill; the microwave as seen in the unit we saw is an optional extra, part of the Diamond Pack upgrade.
The granite effect round sink complements the surrounding work surfaces which are supplemented by a worktop extension. The door fly screen is also part of the Diamond pack.
The living area has the standard Berto soft furnishing scheme, with dark brown upholstery and charcoal and brown curtains; the interior woodwork is described as Aralie SEN woodgrain, with contrasting locker doors in the kitchen and in the model we saw there was a chest of drawers (an optional feature), with a pull-out table. There is a one piece front window and a panoramic roof, the latter another optional extra purchase.
The fixed bed has a Duvalay Duvalite mattress fitted as standard, and of course there is storage over and under the bed, the wardrobe is nearby and the freestanding table stores against the offside wall under a mirror and near a well-placed mains socket.
The shower room has a French Oak effect floor lino, a rectangular shower tray with a light, and more open shelves than cupboards; the washbasin is in the centre and the Thetford toilet in front of the door.
Green credentials are basic, with LED adjustable lights in the living and sleeping areas and LED downlighters in the kitchen, an Ecocamel water-saving shower head and an aerodynamic closed-mould GRP front.
Verdict
A neat, basic caravan, fitted with a Thatcham approved TRACKER Retrieve as standard, ideal perhaps as a starter unit but I advise that you add optional extra security features and this will reflect the cost to insure this caravan.
Some of these are included in the Diamond Pack, at £475.00 and include Scorpion alloy wheels, AL-KO AKS 3004 stabliser and AL-KO Secure wheel lock receiver. A further upgrade is AL-KO ATC anti snaking trailer control system fitted at the time of manufacture (£285.00) and dealer fit upgrades like an alarm (£260.00) and AL-KO Secure wheel lock (£260) takes the price up to over £16,000.
Cost to insure: £189*

We bought the very similar 2014 model last September, but not the fixed bed type. (We prefer the flexibity of space and second optional dining area).
Ours came with the Diamond Pack and the Panoramic Roof, which we love for not just the look but the fact you can have relative privacy if you wish and still have sunlight.
In fact there’s not much we don’t like about the Major 4 considering it’s meant to be an ‘entry level’ model range.
We have a trip to Normandy booked later in the year so we’re looking forward to putting the caravan through its paces!
can I go direct to swift and pick up my own caravan
Hi James,
Unfortunately that’s not something Swift offer, you would have to go through your nearest dealer.
Many thanks
Lucie
Doesn’t the Siena (Grantham Caravans special)include the external socket?…and some other upgrades.
Hi Tony,
Yes, according to the Grantham Caravans website, the Siena is available exclusively with barbecue points, external locker access and an exterior mains socket. See here for details.
Many thanks
Like the new look but woukd like to see an external 230v plug socket
Yep,we bought a new one last year,it has done two trips to Spain plus lots over here. We had an exterior socket and bbq point fitted before delivery. All works well, but I would sooner have the lockers as opposed to the sun roof. It is a little narrow twixt bed and clothes cupboard and it would be an advantage to have the shelves above the bed with doors..You need to be a wizard to understand the radio. Other than that everything works well and good for two.
Thanks for the great feedback Bruce.
