Watch our video and see what our customers think"Platinum standard service"
We were unfortunate recently to have our porch damaged beyond economical repair. We decided to place a claim against our insurance to have it replaced. We contacted the claims dept on 19th May at about 09:30 am. We provided the information requested, and we were advised that we would be contacted within 24/48 hrs.
On the 20th at 10am or thereabouts we had the word that the claim was approved. By 3pm, we had our replacement ready for our next trip out. That can only be classed as PLATINUM standard service.
The claims handler Cheryl was extremely professional when dealing with our claim, taking us through the process effortlessly.
We are now in our fourth year with CG it's our first claim but be sure we will always recommend them when ever we can.

Our guide to insuring your touring caravan
What is caravan insurance? And why is having insurance for your caravan a good idea?
Specialist caravan insurance is a policy that protects your caravan from damage, theft, and other incidents. It ensures that in the event of the caravan being badly damaged or stolen you aren't left out of pocket.
What to look out for when buying insurance
- What's covered? Our policy covers you for damage to the caravan itself, plus fixed kitchen equipment such as fridges, freezers and cookers, as well as 'caravan equipment' which includes things such as Aquarolls and security devices, and any items which are used solely in the caravan, such as televisions or radios.
- Removable items such as clothes and toys are known as 'personal possessions' and are often covered by your household policy. These can be covered on our touring caravan policy but be sure to check with your home contents insurer first to avoid paying for the same cover twice.
High risk items such as laptops, tablets, e-readers, MP3 players, fishing equipment, and pedal or electric cycles cannot be covered on this policy. - 'New for old' cover means that if your caravan is stolen or damaged beyond economic repair you will be provided a brand new caravan of the same or equivalent specification. Our policy offers replacement with new cover for caravans up to 15 years old.
- We offer excellent security discounts for satellite tracking devices, alarms, axle wheel locks and secure storage sites.
Does my car insurance cover my caravan?
In the event of a road accident whilst towing your caravan which is your fault, your car insurance only covers you for damage sustained to a third party, it does not cover any damage sustained to your caravan. Also your caravan is just as likely to be damaged or stolen when detached from your towing vehicle - and in this instance there is absolutely no cover provided by a car insurance policy.

Top ten FAQs
1. Where can I find my CRiS or VIN chassis number?
To make sure everything goes as smoothly as possible should you have to make a claim, it’s important you provide us with your caravan’s CRiS identification number, or if it doesn’t have one a chassis or VIN number.
From 2016, model ranges were security marked with VIN Chip stickers which contain the 17 digit VIN number. You’ll find a master window label in the nearside front window’s bottom left hand corner. There’s also a label in the gas locker and then most windows should be applied with a tamper proof window lozenge.
1992 to 2015 caravans carry a 17 digit CRiS number etched onto windows as well as a VIN or chassis number on the A frame or by the door. CRiS numbers begin with ‘SG’.
Folding campers and trailer tents should have a chassis number on the A frame also.

2. How much does it cost to insurance a caravan?
The costs to insure a caravan will vary depending on individual circumstances and needs, for example the make and model of the caravan, the value of the caravan, where it’s stored and the amount of security and safety devices on the caravan. Therefore it is wise to contact a specialist caravan insurance company for a quote, which will be tailored to your individual circumstances and needs.
3. How do I make a caravan insurance claim?
Simply call our claims helpline number on 01422 501 083 and we will take care of the rest.
We understand the need to resolve an claim efficiently and effectively, to enable you to get back to enjoying your touring as soon as possible.
Or click here to visit our existing customer page where we outline our claims process.
4. Can you park a caravan on the road?
It is not illegal to park your caravan on the road, but some insurance companies will not be able to insure the caravan if it is stored on the road. If you are parking the caravan on the road it must be lit at night and comply with the other normal parking rules (the nearside must face the pavement so the rear lights are at the rear for approaching traffic). The caravan should not block anybody’s driveway or create a hazard to other road users, such as blocking visibility around a tight bend. Some local Councils also take a strong line on the nuisance value of caravans and do, in some cases, take legal action. It’s worth checking with your local authority before parking on the road. It’s also worth checking the deeds of your home, or any covenants or tenancy agreements to make sure you can store your caravan within your property, as sometimes restrictions can apply.
5. What tourer caravan tracking devices do you accept?
The full list of touring caravan tracking devices which we accept and give discounts for can be found via the link below. These include: Phantom Pro Active, Hal-Locate and Tracker Monitor etc.
6. How do I value my caravan?
It remains important to set the correct value for your caravan when arranging or renewing caravan insurance. As of 1st January 2025 Glass’s guide stopped providing valuation guides for leisure vehicles such as caravans. So, we’re no longer able to able to offer a caravan valuation service over the phone. For new for old cover, we suggest checking caravan manufacturer websites for latest new prices of equivalent models, and for market value policies, our recommendation is to review caravans for sale listings on dealer websites or sources such as Autotrader.
7. What are your minimum security requirements for touring caravans?
Our minimum security requirements are that your caravan is fitted with a hitchlock, plus a wheel clamp (covering at least one wheel nut) or axle wheel lock (e.g. Al-Ko Secure) when left unattended and detached from your towing vehicle. These devices must be made by a reputable manufacturer.
Instead of the wheel clamp or axle wheel lock you can also meet our minimum security requirements by removing the caravan wheels and storing them away from the caravan. In certain circumstances we may agree in writing that you can secure your caravan using other security devices.
A trailer tent or folding camper can be secured by either a wheel clamp or hitchlock.
A fifth wheel caravan must be secured by a pin lock when detached from your tow vehicle.
Dependent on the value of your caravan, trailer tent, folding camper or fifth wheel caravan, and its storage location, you may also require additional security.
8. What is new for old and market value caravan cover?
‘New for old’ cover means that we will replace your insured caravan with the most recent model (or equivalent) if it is stolen and not recovered, or damaged beyond economic repair.
New for old cover requires you to insure your caravan at the value it would cost to replace with a new equivalent model, and not its current value (see ‘market value’)
New for old cover is available on touring caravans, folding campers and trailer tents up to 15 years old or for fifth wheel caravans up to five years from date of first registration.
Market value insurance covers you for all the same things as ‘new for old’, but in the event of your touring caravan being stolen or damaged beyond economic repair we replace your tourer with one of equivalent value, or pay out your caravan’s current market value, instead of replacing it with a brand new model.
Market value is nearly always cheaper than ‘new for old’, so is a good option for caravanners looking to save money on their insurance premium.
Market value cover is available to new customers on touring caravans up to 30 years old, but we may be able to renew insurance on caravans which have reached this limit subject to request.
9. Is caravan insurance a legal requirement?
Caravan insurance by law is not a legal requirement. However, without it you’ll likely have to pay for repairs or a replacement out of your own pocket following accident damage you cause, of after storm damage or theft.
People often ask if caravans are covered under a car insurance policy. If you were involved in a road accident while towing your caravan which was your fault, your car insurance policy would only cover damage to your car and damage caused to third party vehicles and property. Car insurance does not cover any repairs to your caravan. Also your caravan is just as likely to be damaged or stolen when detached from your towing vehicle – and in this instance there is absolutely no cover provided by a car insurance policy.
10. How does caravan insurance work?
Caravan insurance varies but a high level of caravan insurance at a moderate price will protect your caravan against accidental damage, fire, theft, storm and flood. It could also protect your caravan against at-fault damage.
Whether you’ve chosen new for old or market value, if your caravan is stolen, involved in a road traffic collision or it is damaged in a hailstorm, your caravan insurance would provide cover for your losses, after your excess and up to the limits on your policy.
New for old cover would mean that in the event of a total loss you would receive a brand new caravan of the same make or model (or nearest equivalent), whereas a market value policy would pay you the current value of your caravan.
