Bailey Retreat Leisure Homes are specially designed for seasonal pitch use.
The Sycamore is a six-berth model with a fixed transverse double bed at the rear, a centre kitchen, and dining area and a wrap around sofa at the front that makes up into a double bed. An L shaped sofa with a fixed table in the dining area, opposite the kitchen, converts to sleeping accommodation.
The soft furnishings are much more luxurious than in a traditional touring caravan, with deep pile drop-in carpets, domestic foam filled upholstery with premium quality fabrics, masses of scatter cushions, co-ordinated curtains, a wall hung magazine rack and Alde heating system all give a certain panache.
High gloss work tops and table, contrasting overhead lockers with a dedicated cocktail cabinet, plenty of storage space, a 117 litre fridge (with a removable freezer compartment) feature in the kitchen and are complemented by a four burner hob unit, a 700w microwave oven, an oven and a grill.
A 40 litre in-board water tank is fitted and the Thetford cassette toilet has a ceramic bowl. The shower is circular with a curved door.
The exterior has a gas BBQ point, a 240v mains socket, easily accessed lockers and the front locker will take gas bottles of all sizes. All in all it’s an attractive exterior with a neat looking rear end – shall we say Middletonesque?
Verdict
It’s perfect for shared ownership. Unlike a static caravan that is difficult and expensive to move, a Retreat can be moved to another site when you fancy a change of scenery. There is no doubt that the Retreat has been designed for long-term all year round use and it’s light, bright and spacious.
Remember though that despite the relatively high price-tag, this Bailey doesn’t come with any standard fit security and as such you would need to purchase an alarm and tracking device in order to take out caravan cover.
Cost to insure: £473*

We have a sycamore – we used the table area for visitors to sleep for 10 days and have ended up with a sea saw – awful design, we went and bought a 20 pounds table from Attwools took the top off and fitted the 2 legs on clips to the underside of the table. I am surprised Bailey have not come up with a new design and replaced them all as they are awful once you have used as a bed,
I’ve owned a Sycamore from new had nothing but trouble from the table so can’t sit at it any more
Need to know if anyone has had problems with them?
Hi Helen, it’s worth trying to contact Bailey’s customer service team: [email protected] to see if they can help to resolve the problem – or to go back to your dealership.
Little point in giving an insurance premium, you cannot fit an Alko axle lock to this caravan, its fitted with steel wheels.
Thanks Mark
You are correct, we’ll get that changed so we quote without the AL-KO Secure Wheel lock.
Thanks

Have owned a sycamore for 5 weeks now and absolutely love it. It feels so spacious compared to our previous caravans
In defence of Bailey and Lady Bailey. We bought a Unicorn Almeria from them a year a go and have just had the first service. It is a fantastic van, wouldn’t change it for anything, apart from another Bailey. We cannot praise them enough for their assistance and attitude towards us from the start. We live in Sussex and are only too happy to return to them again and again.
We have had our sycamore now for 4 wks and love everything about it, could not say anything bad about it, everything it offers suits us down to the ground
Having bought the first brand new (2010 model) Bailey Pegasus 2 berth caravan after caravanning for some 20 years I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. It was un-towable. The support from the Bailey and the supplier Lady Bailey was abysmal. When I told the supplier that I wanted rid of this I was told ‘Join the queue’. Would I buy another Bailey? Guess.
