The two-berth Challenger 480SE is a highlight in Swift’s 2013 range and impresses at first glance with modern interior styling and impressive design features.
The kitchen is on the off-side and side kitchens can lack work space so we really liked the additional space created by the lift-up worktop extension, the slighter larger integral draining board and the dedicated storage for the draining board extension. Other new features are the LED back-lit splash back, under worktop lighting, two cutlery drawers and a 3-speed extractor fan.
The living area has parallel seating with good access to the under seat bases which is great for larger items; don’t you just hate squashing and laboriously pushing items into base lockers and the hernia activating hassle of pulling them out? The standard upholstery is Kitami, a beige and charcoal colour scheme but there are other upholstery choices available as options.
Heating and hot water in all SE models is now courtesy of the ALDE wet system with radiators and water temperature controlled by a new design and more user-friendly multi-function touch pad and the under seat locker space is also warmed.
The end shower room is certainly spacious with a lined shower cubicle and a neat hanging rail over the shower tray. The latter is in addition to the ALDE heated towel rail. The wardrobe has a light and good space for clothes on shelves and a rail. The basin has cupboards under it and a huge mirror above it with back lights.
The exterior has a new profile and a slightly wider entrance door above which is a LED awning light with key fob control. Alloy wheels are a new feature but one of the most useful and eco-friendly new features is a 20W roof mounted solar panel. This is especially useful if there is no mains electricity where a caravan is stored as it does keep the battery topped up for the alarm system.
With AL-KO ATC, AL-KO 3004 stabiliser, AL-KO Secure axle wheel lock receiver (with option to purchase the lock for this), a passive infra-red alarm system and a Thatcham approved Tracker Retrieve battery powered tracking system, this Swift is loaded with safety and security equipment and will qualify for discounts when it comes insuring the caravan.
Verdict
It’s a comfortable, well-appointed mid-range caravan for couples. It’s light and spacious and we like low energy lighting systems and LED task lights. It received very positive comments from visitors who viewed it.

Is that a knee roll that I see? Why do caravan manufacturers still include them in the upholstery? Sooo uncomfortable!
